Been hunting a school in my ID hometown that will kick out a silver or old nickle about every 10 hours of hunting. It's nice because I can just relax and not have to deal with homeowners and their neighbors wonder what I'm up to. I've hammered the place, but every time I go back I find more stuff: clad, nails, 30-40 Krag brass, etc.

The soil is always moist, so when I get a silver signal, I immediately discount it, as zinc pennies in this soil often give a CO reading of 46/47 on my Etrac. So when I got two iffy silver signals within 3' of each other, I almost passed them by. After three years of hunting, I have more than $150 in clad and only 8 silvers to my name, so you can see how I don't always believe what my machine is telling me. For Etrac users: the dime was reading 8 40; the quarter 17 46. Both were between 8-10".

Anyway, a seated was at the top of my list, and the silver Canadian was quite a surprise. My town wasn't settled until the 1870's, so such an old coin is very rare.

Congratulations on the nice keepers!

Awesome congrats

JKline, what part of ID are you from? Im Moscow......

Same. I've seen you on the UI intramural field swinging on a couple mornings on my way to work. I never detected that-- always assumed it would be clad, trash, and cheap jewelry. Most of the good stuff, I always assumed is under a layer of fill dirt around Ghormley. That was were the old fairgrounds were, and the UI ball field up until 1950 I think. Detected around there again last week and found nothing but trash. I swear, if I could have one of the cartoon Acme monster magnets... I have a small coil arriving today-- I'm hoping that will help me isolate targets better. Here's a pic from back in the day-- I think Westpark sits just to the right of the photo now. https://digital.lib.uidaho.edu/digital/collection/ott/id/135/rec/7

I think I read somewhere else on this forum you weren't sure if you needed a gold detector. I don't think you do, but if you want to do some testing with my Goldbug Pro, you are welcome to. I'm probably going to sell it, as I hardly ever use it for nugget hunting. It was my first detector and l soon got an etrac, which, for me, is less frustrating in trash. Oh, and most disappointing, I didn't find anything on those street tear-outs from Line/Almon.

Wow, what are the chances!! We should get together....... you are correct on the photo! Wicks Field has produced a lot of interesting finds. Im out there a fair amount so catch me some morning, Im curious on the detector....... otherwise try applebranchranch@gmail.com

My Dentist?? Kline, on my way to work...... the clues equal up....... lol

That seated coin is on my bucket list, found a 1903 Barber a couple days ago so I'm getting close.
That 8" to 9" range is where the silver is hiding now, it's tough hunting for those deep ones but it's worth it.

Nice finds silver is out there just deeper!
Mark
