Found a loaded 357!

I was hunting the wet sand at the beach today. My first target was a quarter. The second signal was kind of all over the place. I dug a deep hole in the wet sand, probably a dozen scoops, and pulled out a loaded 357 revolver. I had a lifeguard come take it away and call the cops. They took my name and number. I’ll let you know if it was a murder weapon or if I get to keep it. I’ll probably never hear back about it. I also found an Apple Watch, and a silver ring and necklace.

Sounds like a theft & someone buried the stolen goods quickly to not get caught with them & would unbury them at a later time! Ma

It was pretty far out in the wet sand. My first thought was it fell out of the pants of a gangster partying at the beach. But gangsters tend to be more into Glocks not revolvers. So maybe it was used in a crime and recently tossed into the water at high tide.

Were the other finds in the same area where the gun was found? That's why I thought it to be a robbery!! Ma

I can honestly say that I have never seen anyone find a gun in that hood of shape. That is a really neat find. I would have called the cops myself though. Congratulations on the watch and jewelry also.

WOW! Let us know if you hear back from the police.

What State are you beach detecting in?

Cool hunt. I found an apple watch this fall beach hunting. I was able to locate the owner based on the picture that was on the home screen of the watch -- a professional photographer's pic of a local soccer team. I received a reward for returning the watch!

Nice going on the returned watch. I’m in Southern California. When I found the gun there were kids and people playing all over the place. I didn’t want it to accidentally go off or have someone yell out “He’s got a gun!” Also I wasn’t sure if finger prints stay intact after being in sand and ocean water. So I called the lifeguard over and they called the police.

I think you did absolutely correct!

I read on the Photo Taurus - most of it is Stainless Steel
Were there live bullets in each chamber?
If there were empty casings in the chambers, that indicates it was fired before discarding.
Each scenario would tell a different tale if lost or discarded.
Interesting find either way

Finding a loaded firearm on a public beach just reeks of something amiss. Firearm can be traced if not that old and fingerprints are a 50/50 proposition. Fuming in a superglue tank might bring up prints but I’m betting you handled it without gloves as did the lifeguards so more of a chance of original prints being covered by yours/theirs. Ammo casings best bet...... Meanwhile I thought guns were completely banned in CA......??🙄

No guns aren’t banned in California. I recently passed my gun safety class to get my hunting license. Yes I held the gun and probably messed up the prints. The lifeguard picked it up in a towel. I called the police station to inquire on the case. The detective is running the serial number to see if it comes up stolen or involved in a crime. Also, they said if it doesn’t go back to the rightful owner it will be destroyed.

Yeah, that's misconception many have about California's gun laws.

Many reasons for the gun to wind up there.. doubtful it was an accidental loss, but possible.
I remember a few years ago I heard about an individual that was threatening suicide at the beach. Somehow their plan was foiled, but it is believed they tossed the weapon into the water
just before being apprehended.
