How does Simplex compare AT Pro?

I just posted a reply to another question you had, but can easily answer this one. I used an AT Pro when first introduced as I helped a dealer friend put them together then checked it out for a few weeks. A couple of years ago I borrowed the AT Max. I prefer the AT Max, but in my current Detector Outfit I have a Nokta / Makro Simplex +. I keep the standard round 11" DD in my Accessory Coil Tote and would only use it if I hunted an open beach area.

I use their 5X9½ DD open-frame coil mounted full-time as it is very comfortable, the detector balances well, and the performance is quite good for routine urban Coin & Jewelry Hunting. Also in old-use Relic Hunting locations with a moderate to heavier amount of Iron Nails and other ferrous debris, the Simplex + passed my test to handle dense Iron Nails to be considered a good fit for my needs.

The Simplex + offers a 1-Tone, 2-Tone or 3-Tone operation based on the search mode used and the amount of Discrimination you set:

• In the Park 1 'mode' I enjoy the 3-Tone audio and have reject only the first Discrimination segment.
• In Filed 'mode' I like the VCO enhanced 2-Tone audio and have no Discrimination segments selected.
• In Beach 'mode' I prefer the Non-VCO, 2-Tone audio and have no Discrimination segments selected.

I keep my Discrimination at '0' or reject no more than the first Discriminate notch segment. I practically never use Park 2.

In all modes I run full Volume, and reduce the Iron Volume level to '1' in both the Field and Park 1 'modes'. It is not an adjustable function in the Beach mode so that one is full volume for both Iron and Non-Iron targets. I do use the Threshold-based All Metal mode at times, and that's not an available mode on the AT Pro. I do not swim so the waterproof feature of both the AT Pro and Simplex + are not a strong selling / buying point for me, but I do like that with the Simplex +, should I accidentally drop the detector or stumble-and-fall (which happens with me) if I am wading in the shallow water, I'll have no concerns abut water safety.

I seldom swap coils, but, if I needed to, the Simplex + is much less hassle. Also, since I mainly land-hunt, I make use of the wireless headphones with the Simplex + and, overall, it is a lighter and more comfortable package. So, narrowing the pick between these to models, while I am a fan of both brands, the Simplex + wins this battle. I am looking at it mainly from two models that are waterproof. In a more open detector pick, neither the AT Pro or Simplex + can match what I get with my Garrett Apex models which are not waterproof but are terrific general-purpose, land-based detectors.
