My thinking is always carry in less, will It become a hassle! one more thing hanging on to pack. so i want to ask the elders what they think?

Most of my detecting is in the water, no need for a "sling". With today's lighter detectors one is not really needed.

That being said: My ATX is too heavy to use out of the water without me using my ProSwing 45. Likewise using a 15 or 18 inch coil on wet/dry land is easier to swing all day if I have the ProSwing 45 on. I have tried other slings, but now I only use the ProSwing45 when I want to swing on the wet/dry land with an aid that make my detecting time much more enjoyable.

I can see with a sling on it could get in the way when kneeling to to dig. Im often down on both knees when digging as squatting is harder to get back up. I have to move the detector and shovel away from the hole for the handheld pinpointer to work properly. Cant do that unless constantly clipping and unclipping the harness.

Jack I suggest you get some simple basics down like finding your 1st dime or even a quarter before you start thinking slings and whatnots
Thanks for the inspiration danbythecreek !
todays i got the dime!
and that white rock i found out it's a sex stone!:pinnochio:

On a bit on the older side, I've been hobbling around with a cane since March of 93, and I live in pain from a bad back and my mobility stinks. To deal with all the issues I have and still enjoy this great sport, it was an easy decision to select an assortment of detectors that are lightweight and/or well balanced. I have absolutely no to tether myself to a detector with a sling that's just going to get in the way when detecting we're making Target recoveries.

I've hunted small game since I was 8 and bigger critters since I was 12, and most folks considered me a pretty decent shot. The only thing I had a sling on a rifle for was to put it over my shoulder when I was dragging a critter out or hiking into where I got it. I didn't need it for shooting, and they just got in my way. No slings for hunting, and no slings for detecting.

I've used a sling since I started water detecting in 2012 or 2013. Prevents me from dropping my detectors and doesn't interfere with my recovery at all. Another benefit is if someone decides to grab my detector and try to run off with it, they have to carry about 220 lbs of Fongu with them. Even tho I'm down 74 lbs from last November, 220 is still a load, but my sling complements my detecting and I want to buy another one so I don't have to take it off one detector and put it on the other. I know, I'm lazy, but it is what it is and I am what I am. HH.
