Anyone moved from the Nox 800 back to a CTX3030

what was your reasons if you did?
How was your learning curve on the CTX3030 if you have never owned an eTrac or CTX3030?

Why this question? I am doing just that, moving from 3 years on the 800 to a CTX3030 and will probably need some guidance.

Pull-- I started with an Etrac, then started swinging the etrac and the ctx, then started swinging the etrac, ctx and nox 800.

It really won't be too difficult for you to transition over. You'll probably be really happy at how much more information you get over the nox. Not sure what kind of hunting you'll be doing-- put on trashy park or AndyS and start playing. If you have both machines, cover a yard first with one, then last with the other; then, on another yard, vice versa. Compare signals with both. See what you do best with. It isn't a secret here that I haven't been too happy with my Nox.

I think all of us are always looking for the Skittle crapping unicorn that will lead us to that pot of gold over the rainbow. Personally, I should have just stuck with the etrac-- there wasn't any advantage to me buying 2 more machines.

Pretty much all you have to do is dig anything 12 40 and above. Also, I'm starting to think that conventional wisdom is wrong-- that a tight and narrow program is better than a wide open one. I'm going to apply Elmy's 1-10 program to my ctx and take it for a spin-- it really works for the etrac if you are hunting silver. I'm going to start with a 1-0, then put the '1' in where the zincs hit on ground coin.

I learned the Nox 800 but it took a long time coming from my AT Pro. I know how to set my 800 up properly for my different hunting sites. Coins and relics. But I was trying to use 50 tones to decipher some subtle differences between the some what narrow TID ranges on the 800.
But with some high freq hearing loses in both ears it just was not working for me. Thus the switch to the CTX for obvious reasons. I will have to get a swing harness because the 800 with CF replacement rods (thanks Steve) and the lighter 10 x 5 Coiltek the 800 was a dream to swing and the CTX is heavier.

Yes I am going to start out simple. Been studying videos, back form posts on the CTX (and there are a lot of them here) and Andy's book. Learned one thing. Andy's book on the CTX3030 is much, much better than his book on the Equinox.

I use both detectors.
The nox is great for just doing dry sand but serious detecting in sea is much better in my opinion with the CTX.

I have used the Etrac, Ctx since 2017 and when the Equinox came out got a 800 in 2018 and found some nice things with it but ended up selling it because atleast in my dirt it doesn’t have the capabilities the Ctx has (depth, ID and Tones). I am still finding old coins I have gridded to death with the Equinox and multiple coils. The main reason I sold the Equinox is I was digging a lot of junk and not knowing if the dime I was digging was silver or not. Once learned the Ctx is insane on deep copper and silver! Good luck!

I have not bought a CTX but almost did. Now Folks on here say the CTX is a must have because of ID is more accurate than other tectors.

My dilemma these days is - will Minelab put out the next level of the CTX line? If so when? So I am waiting.
There are other folks say another NOX is in the works too which might include Fe/Co numbers besides other features. So I wait.

I have a friend and dealer who has both. Uses Nox more now because of the weight but says CTX still deeper.
It isn't so much as depth as what keeps you from digging less trash? I mean how far do you need to go--- Manchuria?

They all go deep enough-- I have all 3.

Was, heh, swinging with the mrs today. She loves the etrac with Elmy's 1-10-- it is so bloody easy to use. Beep and dig, beep and dig. By comparison the nox is just impossible-- so slow, so chirpy-- you get bogged down immediately. I feel so bad having a newbie swing it.

Set the ctx up right and you won't have any problems with it.

I think the ctx3040 will probably be great but It could be a while.
The eq900 will be a long long time away. its very new in minelab terms.

Robinb, you never know - I hear the patents are expiring and other companies are making good products. So minelab has been knocked off its perch - so to speak. I am staying positive that they get something out soon In both machines.

I have a 3030 but its currently in the man cave on the wall with the rest....I'm liking the 800 and will continue using it the remainder of the year

I am guessing (a little over a week with my CTX) that it boils down to two things. Hunt site (real trashy or not) and learning to recognize what the CTX is telling you. And from my limited experience with the CTX and 3 years with the 800, the CTX shows me a lot more info about a target than the 800 does. It is up to me to learn how to understand what the CTX is telling me by using it. I get people who hunt with the 800 in the fields or on the beach, it is a great machine. But in trashy parks I found it to be confusing with it blending in two or more targets and giving a TID reading that is meaningless in terms of dig or not dig. And yes I was trying to use 50 tones to pick up the subtle differences, but could not to some high freq hearing loss. Again, this is observation is from a real newbie to the CTX. I just could not seem to get the 800 to work for me in trashy sites. I have no doubt that many 800 owners could do that.
