Went out with ELMY for a short hunt at a picked apart church camp. Everybody with a detector comes here. We tried his new Magic program, We went 10 good targets and only 2 aluminum targets. Ten good out of 12 is pretty impressive. I dug a good sounding target and found 2 rusted nails. Covered up the hole and rechecked and still got a signal. Dug it back up and found 2 more nails and a good coin. It is maybe the ultimate E -Trac MAGIC pattern

@ quite often, they also do not do well when worked in a dense Iron debris environment. That can impair their ability to unmask good targets in a tough environmen, and most FBS models fall in that category. ?????????? Then It must be magic !

@ be aware that it is far from being highly accurate, especially on coins too deep, at odd angles, or when hunting in trash that can mask a keeper, or might produce a good-target read-out. ??????????? Then It has to be magic !

The “magic pattern” might be effective with the eTrac/CTX but not with the Explorers. Here’s why….and I’ll post it on the open forum here so I don’t have to type it twice.
Its well known that the Explorer SE Pro was the last incarnation of FBS to use a processing scheme which did NOT “normalize” the “12 line”. Meaning….most of the targets you run across will read on or close to FE 12. The Explorers do not have this artificial normalization…the FE reading when working in mineralized dirt, iron polluted ground or even when the target gets deep in fairly decent soil can get very high. It is VERY common to see a reading of 18-24/28 on a deep dime, ESPECIALLY if there are a decent number of rotting nails around, or even in mineralized ground. The result of running a very closed up pattern such as the one in question here is that the machine will simply blank on the target since something like 18+FE would be out of range. Depending on the orientation and proximity of a nail, it’s possible there will be a slight chirp, but finding such a target in the wild would be a tough go. Even though I sometimes use a tight pattern, when there are nails and pollution the Explorers simply won’t respond because the FE reading is allowed to wander so much. With the Explorers, the FE number can tell you quite a bit.…it’s saying, “I think the target has THIS amount of ferrous content”. The same can be had with the CTX and eTrac as long as you run them in the High Trash setting.
What people are seeing by running an extremely tight pattern is a result of more coins, because it is way less confusion to deal with, whereas the audio becomes overwhelming to listen to and decipher with a more open screen. Don’t let this lull you into thinking that you’re getting ALL of the coins. And with the Explorers, I have learned the hard way, running such a pattern would be detrimental for where I hunt and for how deep the coins can get.
Let me conclude by saying that this pattern has been around a fair amount of time, its a well known “cherry picking” pattern made popular by Bill S. There are a thousand different variations of it, but just be aware that IF you’re using ANY of the Explorers or you are in the High Trash setting on the eTrac or CTX…the pattern must be more open when working around tiny/small iron or in mineralized ground.

This off the subject but I am posting it here so all can see any replies. First of all I am a new user to the CTX3003 (30 days), 3 years on the 800.

I have been working with both Elmy's magic program and Bill_S program. Have been using them in my very trashy park. A coin sounding and looking target every 2-3 feet in some areas. Some 12", 9", and some 3" - 4". Most are screw caps. I am coming to the conclusion that correcting ID'ing aluminum screw caps is a challenge for any detector and I just have to live with the problem. I can live with it because it is only in one park where it is a huge problem. Most other parks, occasional screw caps.

The virus that keeps on giving.

I had it 2 months ago and still having issues. One of the side affects is the "covid fog." Your brain is foggy for a couple months.

Last week i was trying to use my key fob from my truck to lock the front door on the house. I was getting mad because the door wasn't flashing and clicking. Took me a minute to figure out what i was doing. Its made work interesting the last couple weeks.
 
And yes….Elmy it is great to see you out of “the woods”…even if not totally. You’re absolutely right, this virus is nothing to fool around with BECAUSE it is so unpredictable as to how it will affect people individually! Take care and feel better!

Spring is almost here so we will wait and see what the guys running the magic program find. The pattern does go from 1 fe to 26 fe.

Glad you are improving Elmy. I take it very seriously. Have seen a few close friends get hit really bad and long stays in the hospital. You just never know how it will effect a person. My wife's younger sister works in critical care in a major hospital in Atlanta and her stories convince me to take all precautions necessary.
