Impressed with AT gold

Came across an at gold locally recently. heck I paid 250.00 plus tax and it was never registered for warranty and also it was sold new this past march from the dealer. I called Garrett and they varified that with me. It also came with the new style garrett phones that look kind of like grey ghost style. I was planning on buying a smaller coil for another one of my units. I had a couple of at pros come through my hands in the past but never really used one. I have a little test garden in my yard with a clad dime at 7.5 inches. I was surprised that it was able to get the dime in disc one setting. I was actually very impressed. I took it out into the woods and dug some odd and end junk but one of the items was a spent .22 bullet about 6 inches down. Now this has me rethinking my smaller coil purchase for another unit I already own. I thought that I would hold on to the at gold with the little 8x5 coil on it because it seems small enough to sniff stuff out of trash. So far impressed very much so with it and the amount I paid for this compared to the price of the other coil I was buying, I think it may be better to just have the at gold as my high trash hunter instead of swapping coils onto another unit. Just bring it along when I go detecting. I never thought of taking 2 units out before on an outing.

t is a good machine. The true all metal mode is even deeper then discriminate mode.

Have fun!
Hi John:
Some time ago, I had an AT Pro and I liked it. When the AT Gold came out, I bought one and I sold the AT Pro. My AT gold is an early model. Frankly, the damned thing got me so frustrated that I put it away and gave up detecting. It just never worked anything like the AT Pro and seemed to have no consistancy at all. Even a simple thing like the ground balance did not seem to work correctly. I watched the Dan Hurd prospecting channel on You Tube where they were prospecting for gold with an AT Gold and a Minelab (and I have forgotten the model of Minelab) but the AT would not pick up the signals that the Minelab did. John, I am pondering weather the AT Gold needs an update, overhaul or a trip to the Garrett graveyard. Is there hope for this thing or should I just buy another detector?

How can I find out if I have the latest upgrades and mine is a very early model?

Now that's a Nice find
Sometimes I'll take 4 machines out with extra coils.
At least on every new first time locations.
Then I usually only take two.
A deep machine and always the Mojave.
It beats most everything in the nails it seems.
