There was an article in the Detroit paper recently, about vultures with metal detectors desecrating graves somewhere in northern Michigan, to obtain copper artifacts. The descendants of these passed on ancestors were saying ‘People with metal detectors are our worst enemies’.....I have had to ‘put people in their place’ more than once, when they bragged about detecting graveyards; one of those graveyards less than 1/4 mile from our home, dating to the 1840’s, with Civil War veterans interred there.... It’s illegal, totally ghoulish, and shows zero respect for the dead, not to mention making the rest of us look bad. THEY NEED TO BE STOPPED, BY US.....WE NEED TO BE VIGILANT, AND PROTECT AND DEFEND OUR HOBBY, BEFORE IT IS DESTROYED BY THESE VULTURES.

Not sure how you feel about being a “snitch” but if you hear someone bragging about it then report it. Yes, you would be a witness to them making a statement about it and that carries a lot of weight in court. Otherwise the information is treated as here-say and more evidence has to be developed in order to get charges. Personally I would report it in a heartbeat as the idiot/s doing this need to have the public attention of jail and fines to deter others. If the court can ban computer crime criminals from possessing computers then they can ban idiots from possessing detectors.

I don't know many detectorist that have the strength or will power to dig 6 feet down?
Or have a detector that goes that deep?

I hope it's BS. I couldn't think of an act on earth being more Disrespectful, Goulish, as said, and Low Down as Desecrating a grave. Folks are bad enough disrespecting the living, the Dead need to be left alone and allowed to Rest In Peace. The only thing I believe that are worse would be pedophiles. Both acts should bring about a Hanging Offense. We could help to make the world a better place in which to live.
