Got out for first time in over 10 years

First will probably not get out again until late February as we hit 40 degrees and ground still very much frozen. Going down to 8-10 degrees tonight.

Went to local park yesterday (1/18/22)ground pretty much frozen here the Lesche did not bend...best digger I ever had... the ground came out in cubes... small holes immmediately filled with water from melting snow.

I used the dfx and due to ground condition made it a short 45 minute hunt. Also due to the frozen ground impossible to cut a horseshoe plug.

Used high discrimination due to the conditions...more of a practice run to start the detector for the first time in 12-13 years. Charged the 2 DFX batteries I have left held a charge. Charged the SE batteries one no life...

Headed to local park... made goal 10 coins or 45 minutes while holding cent digs down due to ground conditions... went very slowly just around areas that looked a little soft...

10 coins all clad in right at 45 minutes...which is what I will find over 90% of the time as I do not ignore signals that help pay for the accessories.. the rings pay for the detectors...

What I found...the Whites Detector reliable no issues... and still going to keep paying for itself over and over again...

10 coins 4 quarters,4 dimes, 2 cents..2 bottle caps thrown in garbage.

When I use the dfx will show whites bag, with Explorer Se will show Minelab bag. I will miss Whites they were very generous to me giving several items to several years ago that helped with the level of success I had 10-15 years ago.

I also have an Explorer Se for deep silver... been out of action so long... will most likely update to a NOX just not liking repair issues and broken tabs I keep reading about...where I hunt... I might just watch classifieds across sites and pick up a more modern detector... but most do not realize the old dfx is multi frequency but just not as deep as detectors like the explorer and from what I am reading the Nox 600/800...also for some reason the fisher f75 and the garrett at max are detectors I might try...seeing White's detectors new are no longer a choice.

I finally set my faithful and trusty F 75 aside and bought the Equinox 600 last June. I hunt almost daily an average of 4 hours and have not had one issue with the Nox. Can't say it is actually any deeper then the F 75, but I wouldn't bet the farm that it wasn't and I have a far better idea of what I am digging at depth with the Nox. In fact, dug a Mercury dime this morning pin pointer deep. I thought it was a silver dime and had my buddy check it with his CTX 3030 and he thought it was, too. Both detectors were right. Anyway, glad you got out. HH jim tn

Nice scores I’m out usually 12 months out of the year as I have the beach thankfully I’d go nuts if I could not detect!

Imagine 10 years then... :oops: just got to into it and was completely burned out and for some reason it took this long to get back in...
Already thinking of a way around the cold here... but even 90% of the old wood chip parks are rubber mats here now... Ground just to hard about 10 degrees this afternoon...

Well I think I over did it... I am one of those people that can become obsessed... I even would keep a flashlight on me and just start detecting at night time. I actually started planning events and where I was going and timing it out so I could detect for a while... In a very heavy foot traffic area...so no relics but a ton of clad.... So I set my goal on 10,000 coins and did not stop till I hit it... when I did Whites included me and a picture in their finds area a few times ...was nice as they gave me batteries, scoops and so on...but after that I hit a brick wall... I purchased an explorer and it was deeper and better at a different style of hunting... still have them both...I need to slow down and either use the explorer more or I might be on the verge of buying an equinox... but I just keep reading about the ears on the coils breakingand under the armrest cracking in half... I have a great deal lined but the more I read on the forums the more I see people selling them too... also the sealed battery is an issue for me and if anyone knows the cost to replace... I detect for a hobby but for some odd reason I am not happy till the detector pays for itself...
 
It's also been 10 years since my last hunt. Glad you got out there. I'm entertaining getting a used E-trac and heading out myself. But I heard Minelab no longer supports the E-trac. If it's true, I worry I may spend hundreds of dollars on a detector that becomes the world's most expensive paperweight when it craps out. I may take a risk on a used one. However, I'm also considering the new XP Deus II, which is a lightweight, multi-frequency detector. Or...I may just wait on Minelab to come out with a new E-trac upgrade or a lighter weight CTX 3030. Tough decision! Anyway, glad you're back in the hunt. Happy Hunting
