This detecting season, instead of buying a new detector...

I decided to upgrade some equipment for the two detectors I have already. My other detector is the Nokta Simplex which I LOVE. I want to keep it nice so I bought the Lynx control box cover for it. I already have the two coil package and everything else I needed as far as accessories go....

But the real story here is I decided to show my aging Sov XS some love by splurging for an Anderson universal carbon fiber travel rod! I also purchased the NEL Sharpshooter 5.5" X 9.5" coil for my baby. :)
Previously, my all-time favorite coil (that I won't part with) for the Sov was my 8" Coinsearch coil (which is actually a 7.25" round DD). I wanted to find a waterproof coil that was close in size, and affordable. The Sharpshooter clicked both of those boxes for me. If you figure out the total area of each coil, the difference is only about 1/4" between the two with the NEL having a more narrow blade to cut through the trash better while retaining the depth of the Coinsearch. Seemed like a win/win for me!

Rounding out the accessories I purchased was a very cool leather combo sheath for my Nokta digger and NEW Tekpoint pulse pinpointer. I also picked up a cheap Treasure Seeker finds bag that I was originally going to use for hipmounting the Sov but everything was way too heavy on the belt so I opted to mount the control box under the elbow and use the bag as a control box cover instead. For the $11 spent, I didn't mind butchering it up for that, lol.

Finally, I needed to remove my remote all-metal/disc toggle switch from the original Sov XS S-rod where I had it mounted at the trigger finger position. I opted for quick solution by mounting it on the bracket of my Ron's 180 meter in front of the handle. I moved the meter up the bracket a bit to expose some holes and used one for the switch. Now it is activated with my middle finger left/right while still holding the handle. I'm very pleased with the new set-up and will shortly try to attempt a demo run at my favorite park. Hopefully I can penetrate the soil as we warm up to about 50 degrees today here in upstate NY! :) HH ALL! George

Nice mods and upgrades.
Thanks. Over the years of using the Sovs, I've enjoyed modifying them for better performance almost as much as the actual hunt. LOL I'm really disappointed in Minelab for discontinuing this line. At least they are built like tanks to last a LONG time!

I love electronics and modding radios and such.
I love my GT so much I don't want to mess it up.
Hopefully someday I'll find a spare GT.
I'm awaiting a Snake 3.5×6.5" coil for mine.
Hoping it will do better in nails.
Recently I learned while in the null it would still pickup a good target. Fascinating.
Thought it was dead until the null went away.
I originally purchased the GT new for my dad up in Alaska. Never detected before. Used it a couple times. Though I don't believe he understood it.
Passed away before I could get up there and detect for nuggets with him.
I'm hoping the Snake will do well on the gold fields as well. Mxt does well in most places.
GT should do much better. I hope.
Probably 20-30 hrs on the machine now.
Presently I use the Simplex , AtPro and Mojave mostly.
Lite and between the three gets it done.
That Mojave is Awesome in the nails.
But like the GT. I don't want to damage another irreplaceable machine.
I really want to get more familiar with the GT.
Especially with that little coil. And the 13" Ultimate I picked up for it last year.
Just getting back on my feet from injuries costing me over 5 yrs in bed total now. 😔
Hopefully this will be the year.
