Best way to mark a site, so you can come back and dig later

I think you are talking about gridding out a specific location. I also use those little utility flags that are used for marking gas lines..whatever while I am detecting.... If you are worried the next time you might go over some of the same area... do not worry... I always laugh at these people that just think because they went over it... it is cleaned out...
 
I sometimes will use those neon colored flags unless I think someone else will poach. The bright orange golf tees work in green grass but not so much in short dry/dead grass. Sometimes a small surveyors tape in a knot on a branch is easy to see from a distance if you’re off the grid a bit. GPS a good idea. Just remember, ya plant it then pull it when you leave.
