Just XP, no Deus for me.

I have owned three of the ORX detectors and three different coils, and hindsight told me I was nuts for letting them go. I am now correcting my ways!

I've looked back on the uses I had with the ORX and considered how well it worked for me and I am getting another as a birthday gift to myself. This time, however, I am taking a different approach. I always preferred the 5X9.5 DD HF

coil but this time my ORX will keep the round 9" DD HF coil mounted full-time. I have a few other detectors and this set-up makes good complement as I trim down my outfit and change up what detecting I am going to be doing. I like the simplicity, the 3-Tone audio of the ORX, and have settings for the two custom slots that work well.

The ORX is sort of the silent performer that many use, but seldom seem to talk about. I think it is a strong unit in XP's inventory.

I've owned the Deus 1 and now the Deus 2. At multiple times, though, I have considered picking up an ORX second-hand just to see how it stands up against its two more-expensive siblings.

Looking forward to reading your thoughts once you have it in hand, Monte.

My brother has an ORX and does quite well with it. I've used it a bit and it's very much like a Deus 1. Its limitation is that it only has 3 tones and you can't modify the tone breaks.

For me and my needs the ORX is 'just right' with the adjustment features and functions. I prefer a 3-Tone audio and do not want/need adjustable Tone Breaks. I never like or use a "full-tones" or other high-count audio and I do NOT use high-Disc. or Notch Disc. with any detector.

I like the audio response of the ORX wich I mainly use for a plowed field or Beach opera's a more open area where I encounter a lot of Iron Nails. I only use two custom programs with very conservative settings.

USER 5: Sensitivity 95 to 99 ... Disc. '7' ... Reactivity '2' ... Iron Audio 'On'... Frequency 14.4 kHz.

USER 6: sensitivity 95 to 99 ... Disc. '7' ... Reactivity '2' ... Iron Audio 'Off' ... Frequency 31.1 kHz.

If Iron is annoying I opt for USER 6.

An added comment or two about programs.

** I never use Coin Fast .. I never use more than '2' Reactivity .. I based my two custom programs from Coin Deep .. I am a big fan of the ORX.
