13" Detech Ultimate on my E2

coinspader

Well-known member
I finally decided to try an Ultimate coil on my Explorer 2, I was always a little hesitant to do so because of the high trash and iron content in the park where I hunt most of the time but I strapped one on my E2 today and low and behold I nabbed a nice little Barber dime about 8 inches deep in the trashy middle of the park. Surprised the heck out of me, especially since I been over the same area many many times with all kinds of different detectors. So I will be getting out with that big satellite dish again and see if I can pull any more deepie silver.

Congratulation, that’s a cool find. When I was using my E2 I loved large coils on it for fields in parks or beaches. In heavy trash I used the six. I still have one E2 with many coils but h@vent used it in a very long time -

Love that coil
Tends to skip surface trash
It is indeed one of THE oddest things I have seen metal detecting. WHY does the machine seem to not care about very shallow small trash with this coil? I couldn’t begin to even guess, perhaps the specific size and the spacing of edges and center? Dunno. But it does better in trash than one might think.

Not odd at all the bigger coil is less sensitive to smaller targets take a 22 short or small brass bead small and big coil well hit on them 2 to 4 inches large coil small coil 6 plus inches . The small coil seeing less dirt has a better return than the large coil which has to deal with the higher volume of dirt mineral which weakens the return .
Now in milder dirt and less targets the big coil well see it just as deep as to being quieter on all those pieces of foil and small iron making it seem to run quieter there always well be some iron under the big coil small iron bits and pieces the machine can cancel out these small iron pieces and at the same time the small foil is rejected because the iron is being rejected center bar and outside loop .sube
