Beach hunt comparing Legend and Equinox

Finally had a chance last week to try out the Legend on a beach hunt. My Brother-in-law and I had a few days in Destin Florida under what I would call far less than favorable conditions. It rained and stormed almost every day we were there. My Brother-in-law did actually get to use it in the water for a bout 4 hours before the weather moved in. He found 5 or 6 rings. two were gold and a broken 14k herringbone chain. I don't have pics of his finds so I guess you will have to take my word for it. I will post pics of my finds. First, we hunted in factory settings only, no tweaking was performed on either machine except sensitivity adjustments. As I said, weather was bad, and sand was wet from heavy rain every day. Water conditions prevented any water hunting, only sand. Seaweed washing in prevented any close to shore hunting also. Hunts consisted of a couple hours between rain and one night that we covered a large expanse of beach. In dry sand mode, Legend was erratic, switching to wet sand and water mode corrected the problem. My Brother-in-law switched to his Equinox so that we could compare signals for a better comparison. I would like to say that my initial reason to buy the Legend was to see what another company would do with Minelabs technology of multi frequency. To say the least I am impressed. Every signal we compared (even targets that we buried in the sand to compare depth and strength of signal) was impressive, The most impressive was a dime at 14 to 16 inches that the Legend nailed and the Equinox was slightly weaker on the hit. Every signal on the Legend was strong and accurate. My finds included a 14K mans white gold band, a 10K gold ring with 1/2 C total wt. diamonds, a 10K gold ring with 1/4 C diamonds, 4 silver rings, and a necklace with a butterfly with 2 saphires and 2 opals. Also found over $7.00 in various coins. Comparing both machines, each has stronger capabilities over single frequency machines, Legend seems to hit the target harder than the Equinox, but the target separation is better on the Equinox. Coins and rings are all in the 20's on the Legend, separated more on the Equinox. This is something I am sure Notka will address in the future. Both are excellent choices for detectors, and in my opinion, they are close in abilities. I feel I am an accomplished detectorist as is my Brother-in law, and this is my honest opinion on comparison. One thing I would like to add, I feel there would have been more targets, but it looked like new sand had been added to the beach, weather conditions prevented swimming which is the number one factor in finding jewelry on beaches, number of people equals more targets, and people either take their jewelry off to swim, causing occasional loss of it or lose it when they get wet from swimming. Without the usual large crowds, lack of water activity, and weather conditions, there was a clear reduction of good and junk targets. Final thoughts, if you are reluctant on purchasing the Legend due to so few reports on its use, I hope the post helps determine your decision. The Legend is for real, and I think it will only get better! Happy hunting! First 2 pics are Destin finds, Last three are some of my overall finds so you can see I at least know a little bit about finding jewelry.

Man that's Awesome

Holy Moly! Wife would kick me out of the house fill time if I brought home that much jewelry!!!! You beach boys have life easy in a weird way….. lol
Curious on your one comment….. coins VDI at 20 on the beach? I understand the jewelry but coins? I find dimes at 45-46 and quarters at 53-54 on land.

Hey Ronstar1 Thanks for the message and calling out my mistake. I needed to reword that statement to say that the rings, both 10k AND 14K id's in the low to mid 20's, coins in fact id in 40's. My bad. It appears that the LEGEND id's about twice as high as the Equinox. 10K rings on the Equinox usually read from 8 to 12 on the Equinox depending on size and other conditions and in the low 20's on the Legend. Bothe machines are great on gold.

Nice finds, current and previous. Glad to hear and see the Legend appears to be a performer on land and sea. HH jim tn
