Would a regular ultrasonic jewelry cleaning machine work? Maybe get a jeweler to advise?

Vinegar works very well. The only problem with old 10k class rings, that leach out copper oxide, is they become very brittle,
I had a few that after the green crud dissolves, they fell apart
If it a thick band, you may fair better.

WOW !!! If I may be so bold, where did you find a Princeton class ring ??

I lived in Princeton and couldnt get on any property surrounding the university. I drove through get it almost daily and the thoughts of what were in the grounds made me crazy.
I got close to detecting a 'dining hall'. They dont have frat houses at Princeton U. It was under renovations and I asked the construction foreman. He said OK but check with security.
I was green at the time and went to security. ABSOLUTELY NO detecting on University property !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hunted in all the towns parks and other schools and never came close to a class ring from Princeton.

If you get it cleaned up and get initials. That person would be eternally grateful.

Good Luck,

I thought it was Princeton University in NJ. The mascot for the university a tiger. Should cleanup very well.

The salt water does tend to ruin a lot of stuff !!!!!
