Charging question

Ronstar

Well-known member
When I first got the Legend the manual suggests charging the unit for at least 3-4 hrs. I assumed this was plus or minus the time needed to fully charge. Upon the start of the initial charging I noticed the battery icon on the screen showed full charge. After using it for awhile and hooking it up I noted the icon moves as it charges and when stops indicates full charge, I think.
I’ve run the unit to full dead now twice and recharge time is right between 2-3 hours. Im wondering if letting it charge longer is warranted based on initial instructions. Any body have similar experiences or thoughts?

Also, it took 6 hours to charge the spare battery pak……….

Hey Ron.. how much detecting time do you think your getting until the battery is drained ? Hopefully 18-20 hrs maybe ?

My deus headphones used to go down overnight. I replaced the battery and got the same results. A person on this forum recommended unhooking the charger and then hooking it back up. I did that. When I hooked it up again, it started charging again and it was another couple of hours before it quit. I did it again and it only took a short while for it to quit this time. This stopped by headphones from going down. I now get the predicted detecting time with them. My coil, which wasn't as big a problem, gained detecting time when I did this too. Now when I charge it, disconnect and hook it up again, it says it is fully charged. Lots of electronic devices with lithium rechargeable batteries in them recommend charging for 8 or so hours before the first use.

So far I’ve only drained it in 4khz which seems to be maybe 6 hours(ish). Running normal probably is closer to 18-20. I dont charge normally until at least half empty as I dont want to be caught dead before I want to be. But that being said, if battery is drained, or nearly drained , is two hour turn around sound correct? Im just assuming when the battery icon quits blinking its fully charged.

Are you saying that running diff khz on the detector will determine how long the charge last ?? UMM, I don't understand why the detector would discharge faster using one freq over another, but then again I'm no electrical engineer, just a retired steel worker.

It definitely uses power more on 4, not sure if it reduces as you go up the scale of 10 to 40. Someone earlier on another post noted the same thing. Running in SMF one would think it will take more power but thats not the case. I dont really have a problem with it and glad I’m not changing batteries every 4-6 hrs!!!! Plus in that heavy EMI area 4 is “the bees knees” as they used to say!!!!
My main question here is full charge in just 2-3 hours consistent with what others see???

Thanks for the explanation Ron.

Well this plug in and recharge type operation is nee for me (other than a darn good flashlight with magnetic charging cable) so not meaning to ask dumb questions. Why it pulls so hard in that freq is beyond my knowledge.

The Deus manual says as much,
Im just assuming when the battery icon quits blinking its fully charged.
That was not my experience with the Deus. Headphones blinked like it was fully charged but when hooked up again started charging again. Since I did that a few times, the battery lasted many times as long and does charge to full in a couple of hours or less now. If I unplug and try again, the headphones blink "fully charged". When I first got them, when they said fully charged, they lasted only a couple of hours. Now all my coils, headphones, and remote are fully charged in a couple of hours

I realize your quoting Deus but this The Legend so unknown if they operate the same. Can assume same principal????

Would really depend on the charger you use. The unit has some peak draw (perhaps 2 amps?), but if you used an older 500ma charger then it would take much longer. I think the 3-4 hours is to cover all the bases in case someone plugs into an old USB charger.

It is plugged into 110v via a USB adapter……

Sorry misread what you wrote…..
Output 5V=4.8A total (each2.4A Max)
