old coin die stamp

Dug this up the past Sunday.
Looks like a V-nickel coin die could be a counterfeit or the real thing.

Im guessing its a stamp/press for counterfeiting. Or, an attempt to alter the graphics for whatever purpose…..
 
Can you tell what it is made of? If it was in a fire, it might have been "branded" by a V nickel.
I think it’s steel. A magnet will not stick to it. It’s not lead or brass. I don’t think the fire got hot enough to be branded by a V nickel. Die/stamp was cut off the rod.
Found in a very old park with the Deus2. I.D. 74-75
