Weekend finds 1777 Spanish silver

Hope everyone had a great fathers Day I started at the big park right near Long Island sound that is actually a closed down mental hospital. I find a lot of clad here and occasionally silver but I was working my way back to the car. And right in front of one of the building doors about 10 feet away I had a very faint high tone.
Well I cut my plug in about 6 inches down I saw a little tiny black coin I was hoping it was a trime!
Nope a 1777 hold half Reale! I also found the Grover Cleveland’s token .
Saturday was just a old school where I got one mercury dime and Sunday after Sunday service I hit up another school where I found the silver Roosevelt a junior Firemans ring and a small military Cuff button and $9.25 in clad change.

Excellent catch. Keep in mind that Spain offered military and logistical help for your independence from England.
Bernardo de Gálvez's performance in the United States War of Independence was decisive for the victory of the Continental Army. The governor of Louisiana, with his material contribution and his military actions, succeeded in expelling the British from the lower Mississippi basin and from Florida.
Perhaps the coin is part of that aid...

Nice job! The small hole maybe indicates it was made into a pendant maybe? I kinda like Draco’s theory so maybe a bit more research warranted. The small badge has the elk/stag on it, could that be from the Hartford Insurance as promo for when we used to get firetruck rides back in the 60s?
 
Great catch on getting over a Spanish piece of silver. Out of 5 half and one Reale's I have found, 4 were holed. They used to hole them and run a piece of string through the hole and wear them around heir neck to keep from loosing them. You had a grand weekend of hunting. Nice job! HH jim tn

Pleasant Suprise Mark, they circulated as legal currency clear up to the civil war. I guess that makes it trifecta!
