The Legend has made my mind up!!

I have finally found the one and only detector for myself and the Legend is it. I'm going to be selling my Deus 1 and Minelab Vanquish 540 pro pack off. I don't see any need in keeping them in the closet. Don't get me wrong those 2 detectors are awesome machines but the Legend is finding stuff in the areas I have hammered to death with them with many different coils attached. Nokta/Makro has knocked it out of the park with this Legend and it just keeps getting better with the updates they're doing.

Jim I look forward to reading your thoughts and experiences with it. It's a awesome detector. Nokta/Makro know customer service and they listen and give us what we want and need to get the treasure we are hunting for. I'm looking forward to getting the Legend out in the Civil War relic woods this fall and winter. I know it's going to be awesome on relics.

I agree with your assessment of the Legend, there is just something about it that makes it the rite detector for my detecting style I have had a gut feeling about the Legend for some reason ever since it was first announced, and that feeling has not gone away yet and has not disappointed me yet I agree Nokta/Macro has knocked it out of the park with the Legend and has pretty much became the detector they said it would, and I do not think they are finished yet is it a perfect detector no not by any means there is no perfect detector, but it is perfect for what I do and the type of detecting I do.

I am leaning that direction although I will not be selling my Deus.

I am very happy with my Deus.

The only thing I wish the legend had was a 0-99 TID scale.

Maybe one day an update will offer that.

I have owned several Nokta Makro units in the past and I really like the large screen that were on them.

I think they are well made too.

Anyways please share your input on performance etc if you have time.

Heck, everybody just chime in and give their usage opinion.

All I see is a lot of griping on the speaker and guys trying to get used to new updates.

I would like to hear more specific comments on how it performed and why they are happy with it.

Kind of like what you said in your thread here.

I've got an old out of warranty M/L 800 I'm afraid to dunk but love the dang thing. I'm either getting a new 800 pod or a legend. The Legend deals are REALLY looking good!

I’m on an invite list to a civil war camp site. The guys that live there hunted it pretty much every night for months earlier this year and part of last year. My last trip over I pulled 14 mini balls and several pin fire casings along with one button back with the Legend. The first one came 25 to 30 ft. In front of where we all park. It has been walked over a bunch! Three of them have now bought Legends.

I to have always used detectors with VDI's to 99, It is hard to get to know 0-60. All the 20's and 30's are foil or bottle caps. I think i will just start digging 50's and up.

Ok you ask we shall deliver LOL

To start the Legend is my first dive into multi frequency sort of, and what I mean by sort of is I came from the Xterra 705 which is a multi frequency detector all be it it would ony run one of the three frequencies at a time, The equinox was built on the V Flex platform of the Xterra, thus the reason the Xterra is no longer being produced, in my opinion, I have always felt that the Xterra 705 was one of the most under rated detectors to have ever been produced, I still feel that way today, with all that being said the Legend reminds me a lot of the Xterra 705 but super charged and on steroids, keep in mind these ar all my opinions, the Xterra 705 had a steep learning curve the Legend to me does not and I do not really know if this is because I learned on the Xterra 705 in some ways I feel that did help me with the Legend learning process

My Legend had the 1.04 software in it when I received it so I have had to install all the updates as they have been released to us, the 1.04 version was ok in my opinion but did not work on the beach for a lot of US users of the Legend they then came out with the 1.05 version which still was having issues with beach detecting thus Nokta/Macro released yet another update the 1.06 which cured the beach issues user were having but created some different issues, which i and several others reported to Nokta/Macro they very quickly took the 1.06 off their website and replaced it with 1.07 which fixed the additional issues we started seeing with the 1.07 update I started seeing the biggest changes in TID stability, not falsing on nails and not being inhibited with EMI I was able to then detect in a couple of areas that I was previously unable to use the Legend in because of the EMI, with in a month or maybe two Nokta/Macro released yet another update 1.08 with the 1.08 they added adjustable Iron Bias, stability setting, an iron filter, mineralization meter, a new Multi 3, and several other features, the 1.08 allows you to further enhance the Legends capabilities, there was an issue with the 1.08 the one issue I seen is the ground balance values were way off for instance my ground balance values run mid 80s to mid to high 90s with the 1.08 those GB values were running 1-10 which I knew was no where close to correct because I checked those GB values with the simplex and a AT Pro, there was a couple of other issues with the 1.08 so Nokta/Macro release 1.09, with the 1.09 and the 1.08 the legend now runs quieter then a church mouse in the areas I detect which is really high in mineralization, the TIDs seem to be even more stable then they were in the 1.07 version, i really cannot comment on depth simply because no detector I use in the areas I detect will see targets much deeper then 8 inches this is due to the high mineralization in the areas I detect, a lot of times I am running my whites TDI SL special edition to combat the high mineral content in the ground I detect and to battle the 100s of hot rocks I get over

I have buddies that I occasionally detect with that all use the Equinox 600s and 800s when we have compared targets with each other we see vary little difference in depth on targets the big difference we have all noticed is the build quality on the Legend pretty much out classes the Nox, detecting wise there just is not enough of a difference for me to give the edge to one or the other between the Legend and the Nox 800 the nox 600 does not have the same capabilities as the Legend or the Nox 800 in my opinion, I have just under 400 hours on my Legend and so far I am very impressed with the Legends capabilities,I also truly believe that the Legend will only continue to get better as Nokta/Macro releases more updates to us the one thing I hope for is that Nokta/Macro does not end up updating to the point it dumb the Legend down

one last thing I will comment on is the update process I feel the update process is a little difficult, and should not be the 1.08 update took me 17 hours to get it to install and there was no rhyme or reason as to why it finally did install since I followed the instructions to a T

Oldkoot, Are you running V1.09 now? Did it correct the GB readout of your ground?

I too have been very pleased with the performance & versatility of the Legend. My Anfibio Multi is a very capable detector, The Legend is a level above. Very impressive. The Legend has also found targets that were missed by my Vista X & Tarsacci MDT 8000 on high mineral relic sites. This was with V1.07. The added features introduced since have been a noticeable upgrade in capabilities.(and NM is not done yet) Each detector I have has it's own place for my hunting, each sees the ground/target in a slightly different way. The Legend will be first choice most every time I go out.

Ive had mine now since May 13 and will be updating to 09 when I get home from the OR coast. For land hunting where I live it has located coins and other such where the F75 didnt, a 3030, didnt, an eTrac didnt, and at least a couple others didnt. Did I miss something? Probably but the percentage of missing has most likely dropped considerably.
I was quite comfortable with the 1-99 numbers but Im learning the 1-60 scale. I like the fact I can adjust the tones to my basic finds. This way I can hunt visual and audible, a win win for me.
I’m currently beach learning and doing something wrong (see other Legend thread) and maybe 09 will fix that, wont know until next years vacation time).
So far this detector has been a good decision for me.

I believe everyone needs one good SMF machine and can see why you would go with NM which is top on the line in service and reliability. Once you learn it an SMF is more of a turn on and go machine than than a single multi like D!. But I would lean toward keeping the D1 for certain occasions. I've never seen a better iron separater than the D1 and how does it compare depth wise? Usually SMFs not as good with high EMI. The etrac and 3030 are still known as the best "deep" silver IDers. Reason asking my 3030 died of old age and replacing will be a big decision. It runs 3-50 and D1 0-99 which has never been a problem.

yes I am running the 1.09

as for correcting my ground balance issues I can not really answer that, what I am seeing is this I have re-installed the 1.09 now 7-9 times the reason I have re-installed the update is this, after the re- install the ground balance numbers I see are the same or close to what I see when I ground balance the Simplex plus but after say 2-5 days those numbers start dropping on the Legend
(Dilek gave an explanation for this in a video) on the ground balance, and I will be honest with you what she said in the video which was posted up this morning made zero since to me
the reason it makes no since to me is this if my ground balance numbers are up around the mid 80s to mid 90s and then all of a sudden the legend out of the blue starts dropping those GB numbers down to the point they are somewhere around 0-5, (when I check the GB numbers with the Simplex Plus the GB numbers are still 80s-90s) how in the heck could that be correct the ground I detect has not suddenly lost all of its mineralization, (this is what is going through my mind) to me the GB is off but not according to Dilek according to her own words the legends ground balance is doing exactly what it is supposed to be doing,
I will say when the drop in GB numbers starts happening it does not seem to affect how stable the Legend is running but it is just really confusing to me, I could understand if I were running with the tracking on but this happens with out the GB tracking activated

I will also say I did yet another re-install of the 1.09 update again early this morning at midnight after the re-install went out to my front yard and the Ground balance is working like I feel it should be working but who the heck knows maybe after 13 years of detecting with Ground balance capable detectors they have come out with a new GB method I just do not know LOL,LOL

and please, please do not take me wrong like I said in my initial reply to you I love the Legend, and am not knocking it in any way there is a learning cure with any new detector someone decides to start using and some are easier then others for me the Legend has been pretty simple, way simpler then the Xterra 705 ever was

I agree, I too had an xterra 50, 505 and a 70. It was a great set up and sniffed out some coins with the 18khz HF DD 6" coil. Plus light weight.

I wonder if we all ask Nokta in a nice way if they would offer a 0-99 TID scale? Maybe if enough of us asked they could possibly put it in an update.

I am glad to see that the EMI issues people were having has been fixed. I had an eq 600. Actually had 2 of them. I found their display very nice. I thought the build quality was decent,. However, if they over at minelab would have offered the equinox on the xterra shaft, no one would have ever complained about build quality on that set up I am sure.

I appreciate your input and overall feel with your experience on the legend. You must live out in the western part of the US maybe....or possibly over near Virginia by your comments on using a TDI due to the high mineral content.

DO you prospect for gold as well possibly?

Anyways, Thanks for your thoughts and input!! I am still going to wait a couple of more weeks before I pull the trigger. Heck it is too hot and dry where I live right now anyways to even get out and detect.

bigtim1973 I live in Arizona in the south Eastern part of the state we have only been in this area for about 4 months now, the area i am in is a known gold and silver area and highly mineralized, my main detecting is for gold nuggets, and I do some occasional coin detecting when I or my wife do not feel like going out poking around big rocks and bushes LOL, we have a park rite across the street from us that was establised in the 1800s according to the sign at one of the entrances, according to the people that live around us none of them have ever seen a detector in that park, so my wife and I are planning on hitting it some evening, for gold and silver detection we have a RZR we go out and run the back roads and washes, at 63 we just kind of take it easy any more

here is a photo of our detecting Vehicle LOL

I had a feeling you lived out west!! And what great place to look for gold and cool rocks as well!!

Oh and your detecting go vehicle is pretty cool too!!

I would definitely take advantage of detecting in that park near your home. It would be some easy pickings near by and no telling what might pop up out of there!!!

Keep us posted, HH Tim

speaking of rocks here is one I pulled out of our yard with the legend it was only down about 2 inches tops and it was screaming with kind of iron tone, thought it was interesting not sure what it is though some have suggested it is from space but its not magnetic so I do not know

Oldkoot,…. I guess the phrase “misery loves company” applies here !…lol !….. I’m experiencing number fluctuations bobbing on the same patch of ground…..not sure w hat to think…???….The machine is running deep, and very quiet, but I’m really not sure if I’m running optimally….I’m not sure if there are any adjustments that can be made in the field to make the ground balance work more efficiently….or dare I say properly ?…..Jim
I’m running 1.09
