GTI 2500

I'm thinking about getting one. I know they are heavy by today's standard. Looking to use for relic hunting and coin shooting. I really like the bell tone on coin sized objects. Would an AT Max or Apex be better ?

Had one, weighed a ton to swing. Uses lots of batteries, too. Imaging works pretty well though, making it a good coin machine for clean areas. If you don’t use the imaging ability though, I’d get something else. The Apex is much lighter, has rechargeable battery and Z-Lynk ability for wireless headphones. Works much better in clean and junky areas. Once you learn it, you’ll do pretty well with it, coins or relics. HH.

I got an early, virtually prototype Apex. Followed up getting a couple more and did the upgrade via internet on all three units. For a mid-priced detector, the Apex has been outstanding for in a wide range of Coin Hunting environments.

For Relic Hunting it has also performed well in low to modest trash areas. I use the 5X8 Ripper coil almost exclusively and only wish they had theirs all 41/2" Concentric coil for it to tackle the toughest dense Iron trash.

Does anyone still use a 2500 machine ?
As most have said "there are better detectors for far less money. But, you never said if you were buying used or new. If you can get the 2500 for a great deal, I would buy it. They are an excellent coin detector, but not in trashy sites. I would chose an Equinox, Legend, or Apex in no particular order. Good luck with what ever you buy!

I agree with others as well about other detector choices that are available.
Depending on what part of Virginia you are at, a detector with some form of ground balance should be considered in my opinion
I believe the Garrett 2500 ground balance only functions in all metal… not disc. mode.

Looking to buy a new GTI. I am also considering a At Max and Apex.

If your dead set on a Garrett, if you are choosing between the ATPRO or ATMAX…… the ATPRO has a smoother audio……. You might check out the Apex . It’s one of Garrett’s newer offerings. HH Tony
