Saturday, in the park, thought it was a dime.

So, I’ll get the boring stuff out of the way first…..
Went back to the honey hole with the intention of figuring out the vibrating carrot and the other demons. Well, they weren’t there. The EMI we expect was where it should be, even in 4khz I had to drop Sens all the way to 8 to basically null it. Went back to where the carrot was acting up and all was normal, so much for diagnostic endeavors. This tells me there is some random event generating thru that area and there is nothing wrong with my equipment.

I finished up in the area where I recovered the Barbers and nothing else found. So I shifted along a linear line that those were found on. Figured why not?? Spent maybe an hour slowly working along that avenue. I then started down the edge of a major sidewalk thats close to where the four Barber dimes were found earlier. I hit a faint signal that was two way and then gone. I almost left it. But I’ve learned two way is probably worth going after…….
I was not able to find it again but luckily there was an odd stick right where I hit so I slowly started going around it in a circle until I was almost at 360 degrees when I hit it again. There was no other noise in the headphones so it was clearly audible but faint. I moved just a tiny bit and gone so I adjusted back a tiny little bit and got it for the third time. I noted the VDI was 50-51 on the Legend and depth was five bars so I was hoping a deep silver dime or a quarter. Pinpointing showed a very small footprint but it was hitting on something!
Spade on shovel is 7.5” to the hilt so thats roughly enough to recover most any coin around here. I checked the plug with the carrot and nothing so I rechecked the plug with the detector and I can still get an iffy signal. I increased the sensitivity on the carrot and it was indicating something dead below (and not on a side). I was able to get another couple inches and then the carrot hit on medium setting. I used my hand trowel and got another inch or so out and I was able to see the edge of a reeded coin at about a 45 degree or less angle. My first thought was another Barber dime. This time I took a couple pictures mainly to show the depth of the coin which was 10-11” based on the carrot. I grabbed the coin and brought it out and there was my first Seated Liberty dime in my hand! I was a bit in shock but just wait……… got the little magnifier loupe out and its 1841! Now I’m in delirious shock. I can not believe I found this. Yes it was deep and if I hadn’t hit it at the angle I did I would not have found it to begin with. Perseverance actually produced.
Gotta love Chicago, cant stop singing that song!!!!

Holy smokeroonies !!! An 1841 seated!! It’s a beauty!!! Your hopes and dreams came true Mr. Ron 😂 it was one helluva deep dime! Are you glad you didn’t walk away? 🫢

Well! Aren't you the lucky one. (y)(y)(y)

To answer jkline first, NOT. Its all yours today……. Surprised to didnt mention ordering a Legend, or is that becoming a cuss word to you ML guys? Lol

All I can say was I was curious when I got that first two way squeak. Having confidence that the machine was bouncing off something and it could have been iron or a deep bottle cap. Once I got the first number 50 to flash I was now more curious as the falsings and some old steel caps usually flash 60. I’m more thankful the EMI took a day off tho.
Jeff and I are always commenting how it the world did we miss these the first time? Its pretty plain now that deeper coins rely on being swept at more critical angles than shallow. I took the “in hole” pics initially trying to show depth and angle. I dont think the coin moved at the time I exposed it. Thinking it was a Barber or a Merc and then seeing the front was a Seated was a moment for sure.
Elmy, thanks for all your encouraging efforts!!!

It has been a pleasure and you have just entered into a different realm of detecting. Probably now realizing that you have walked over a few very deep coins and what was so hard to explain to you was just exactly what they sound like and just how many there really are out there to find. I said, "if there was a new detector that could outdo all the old detectors we all have that in time it would show itself with finds on the forum." Are you and Jeff right in ordering your legends ? Time will tell. It works for you is all that matters. The difference for me is the etrac sounds the same on the deep coins as it does on a shallow coin in iron with my setup, and that works for me.
Enjoy your Bliss, the perfect joy of detecting.
You have earned the right to brag a little.
