The Blame Game

buckeeeee

Well-known member
You know stuff happens and all of a sudden in this day and age everybody is looking to blame someone or something for anything that happens to them. Well buckle up metal detectorist , because once they start calling out the kids and parents for digging holes the stuff starts to roll downhill, and the next ones on the list is metal detecting. Then the pointe heads start the new rules, regulations, fines and laws that spread from state to state, just my opinion.

I just got reading this on Yahoo news, and the first thing that came to mind is a metal detectorist will probably be blamed for this unfortunate accident. Doesn't matter that all the kids with their parents who dig way bigger holes than any detectorist ever could/would just walk away and let the ocean fill in what was dug..
Sorry for the rant, lets hope a ban doesn't take effect.

We have been to Panama City Beach since they passed the law banning metal shovels from the beach and have used my stainless steel beach scoop without issue. It is a specialized tool used for sifting that can not be bought in a regular store. I fill my holes too and have watched the beach patrol watch me doing so. Myrtle Beach has an ordinance on holes and "metal shovels" too; again, I've used my stainless steel scoop and not been bothered; it is a sifter and not a shovel and I fill my holes.

I’ve seen people let their kids dig half way to China and their dogs all the way to China! And then just pack up and walk away. Next law will be no one on the beach unless you’re a card carrying member of the local Beach Flea Association.

Some children have died from digging deep holes, because while digging large holes the sands have collapsed back upon them & they cannot get out when compacted in too tightly--Sawdust piles will do the same thing! They suffocate before anyone can get them out--I believe some ppl are putting up warning signs or they're forbidding the digging of large holes on beaches for the safety of themselves & others! It is the careless & uncaring, selfish ones that don't cover their holes are remove their trash & clean up the messes they make before leaving--same thing when forest fires are caused by careless campers!
