Bounty Hunter Tracker Pro (2) big issues any ideas?

I purchased a very slightly used Bounty Hunter Tracker Pro from what appeared to be an honorable person. Looks like new. I inserted a new, fresh 9V battery. Unit comes on immediately, can’t turn it off is issue 1. Every other button works well. 2nd big issue unless I turn the sensitivity to 1 bar it appears with sound & visual ID to find bogies everywhere inside & out. Inside I thought ok, hardwood floors it’s finding nails, water pipes & electric wires underneath. Then went outside and unless someone peppered our complete lawn with buckshot & coins it’s filled with false triggers. Variably lights up everything from Iron to various coins. I was so looking forward to using this. I tried 2 different alkaline batteries. Read over 9V from a sealed pack.

I got this for a low price of just $30. I’m on disability from 4 spine surgeries so I can’t swing $200. Not sure if it’s worth sending in for repair. I was trained in electronics in 79-81. I’ll look close for a loose ground, cuts in the coil cord or something similar tomorrow. Open to any ideas. Thank you very much. Dave in Eastern PA.
