Why not be the bearer of bad news? With the reputation of those two in some circles, it would be seen as nonsense or mudslinging. I am extremely interested in your enigmatic statement.
I for the most part enjoy both of their videos, just don't care for the bashing of other detector brands.

Found this to be a curious statement over in another forum discussing the new minelab machine. Not sure how to take it, kind of left a bad taste in my mouth. Hope I don't get attacked on the forum for not toeing the line ....

MY guess is "silent EMI" , that seems to be Tom's thing. I doubt he will bring it up as criticism since his rep is as an engineer and technician but pretty easy to push the others to uphold their reps as hacks and I'm sure they will accommodate. I have used both detectors and the Legend , in spite of the flies that buzz around it , smells better than the NOXs.

I am not sure of why NASA Tom put that out there with no comment. I certainly leaves the door open for the basher & nitpickers.
I would hope that any concerns would be passed on to Nokta. They are the most responsive detector company out there & ever has been. Responding to User suggestions on ways to improve The Legend have been the driver of the vast majority of the evolution we have seen with this machine. There have only been a few "bugs" that needed to be "fixed". Certainly no more than other new introductions by other product manufacturers. I look forward to it's continued improvement.
As far as current "issues", I'm not aware of anything major or anything wide spread. The speaker issue has been addressed as well as the BT HP Threshold level. Most of the complaints I see are self inflicted. As with anything else you have to learn how to use it. That takes time & experience, especially if you want the high performance this detector is capable of. Having a You Tube channel or a Forum membership is not what makes someone an accomplished detectorist.
Things like coil height being fussy or not alerting on high conductive targets in modern Al trash are not true for me. My Legend has no problems with this at all. It is remarkably good in modern Al trash, but you have to set it up right & understand what it is telling you. It is not rocket science but it is not child's play either. People are to quick to blame the machine before considering themselves.

I do understand where you are coming from, but in the same breath, there are notes that a manufacturer can put out there to help the end user to use their product more productively…XP for example has a series of situations, and settings, that explains what’s going on, and why….I watched a bunch of their video’s and they were all very helpful….I was in Georgia visiting one of my best buds, and he had just gotten an xp orx…..There were plenty of situations that could have been head scratchers, but they were eliminated because of the excellent video’s explanations….I just changed my high tone break from 40 to 45 that now allows me to hear the difference between a penney and a dime running 4 tone…..Before in stock 4 tone, the tone break was at 40, and all the pennies, and a dime sounded the same….That’s a big deal to me….This would have been helpful info to me had I known earlier…

Here is Tom's reply, wonder how many videos will be made about it.

All others: In reference to the Nokta/Makro Legend........try this:
Burry a dime at 10".
Burry a dime at 14".
Test 4-KHz on both dimes.
Test SMF on both dimes.
You will discover a fundamental SMF error.
I demonstrated this to a Nokta/Makro engineer.
Then............... he replicated the error to/for himself.
Then............. we went live on-the-wire (video conference) with Nokta/Makro Istanbul, Turkey...... and demonstrated error to the Chief Design Engineer.
(((Names deliberately withheld))).

Last time I counted, the Nokta Legend has had 34 changes since it first came out.
I dont ever remember any electronic product, with so many firmwa "fix's", and still have a product with issues.
Thats legendary.
You just don’t quit with the bashing do you?
I guess you don’t have an iPhone or android because they have had way more updates and bug fixes.
Just a hater I guess.
Ill end with saying, i was raised if you can’t do something better you shouldn’t be so critical.
If you have developed a better program for a detector then i stand corrected. Lets hear about that.

Yes XP does a very good job, especially with Gary Blackwell, explaining their products to the User. I wish Nokta & all others did as well.
We have gotten to be an impatient bunch. I'm all for learning from others, but the best learning is still thinking & doing for ourselves. That is what sticks.

Here’s the thing I think the Nox is a good detector but has an obvious leaking issue that is important for someone like me. If i didn’t care about the waterproofing i would use it. But i don’t go bashing the detector as a total piece of crap everywhere like coinshitter is doing with the legend.
His best argument is it has alot of software updates/ bug fixes. So do our cell phones. I dont go around on iphone forums or android forums bashing them. I will inquire about an issue though if it’s something that effects me.
Here is something to note. At least NM is trying to fix something on a product just released. Unlike ML, has not done anything about it for years now.
I also have given ML quit a bit of money through the years for detectors and should have a say in what concerns me about the products. I would like to know how much money CS has given NM for detectors or if he has developed better software himself since he criticizes it so much.
He should put his money where his mouth is but please wash it afterwards because I wouldn’t want to touch it knowing where his mouth is.

I'm sure it will be irresistible to a couple of folks.

I have done these comparisons. In fact I took some time at lunch today to re do this bit and still do not see anything that stands out. Established test bed targets, mild, very dry soil; 10" Dime, 12" Dime, 12" Quarter, 15" Half Dollar. M1, M2, hit the best. M3, 4, 10, 15 hit more softly. Stock LG 28 coil. Not banging signals but the opportunity is there if you are paying attention. I will look forward to this anomaly being resolved. It means more improvement to me.

In all fairness, it will probably take a while for Nokta to re-write another program and issue another firmware update, if they feel the need to do so at all.

Minelab cheaped out on the NOX , that's not news. As far as Tom's comment goes , one has to chuckle and it brings home the importance of insulated perspective in these detector evaluations. I would challenge Tom himself to detect a dime at 10 to 14" in my soil with any detector that wasn't a PI much less get an accurate TID out of it.

yeah I would like to see him detect anything in my ground at those depths, no detector will where I detect except a Pulse detector.

For the money it serves me well. I don’t think anyone can definitively say i would have found more either way. Had the Nox not had leaking issues I probably would’ve bought that instead. But now im glad i made the decision i did. That was on ML not anyone else. They could have fixed the leaking problems early but seems they are still in no hurry and are going to let it go and move on to the Manticore. Nothing personal dude but by defending them at all cost saying you are ok with the problems isn’t going to push them to correct anything. Why would they if all the customers say they are ok with and can live with all the issues. I just don’t understand why you won’t complain about the issues of the detector you use and like to better it, but instead rather complain about the brand or detector you don’t own.
Yes the legend has had software and some other issues but legend owners complain to NM in hopes of making it better. Not wasting all their time and energy on other brands they have no interest in.
I showed interest in possibly the manticore had some questions and got beat up for it. Then said I didn’t like the fact of prepaying, you told me you would message me a dealer that doesn’t take prepay. I asked you twice and no reply.
If you cant add kindly to an honest sincere conversation then don’t

If you read some earlier theads that I have been a part of, I have always pushed to make this good detector even better….In these threads there were folks that were complacent saying how good this machine is for the money, and were happy with it and found good targets the way it is…..That’s OK for them and don’t condemn them for the way they feel… They’re happy, and that’s ok…When Nokta is listening and reading these threads, I am sure to voice my concerns….Hopefully the squeaky wheel gets greased !

Im not sure what your talking about! I dont know of any dealers offhand, that are taking orders on the Manticore without a deposit, but Im sure there are some. But this thread is about the Legend, so Im not sure what this has to do with the Legend??

there are dealers that are taking pre orders on the Manticore rite now and not requiring a deposit on it you just have to know where to look

I believe thats what digdog was asking.
Seems like there are several dealers as I recall, and others that want full payment.
I imagine the ones that require no payment, have a looooooooong list of preorders.
