F75 stock coil vs 9.5x5.5 dd

Has anyone had experience with both of these coils using them for the same type
of detecting? How's the separation in trash and the VDI accuracy with the smaller coil?

I've used them both and the little smaller coil is a bit better in trash and I think the tid accuracy was about the same between them. What I liked about the 9.5 x 5.5 coil was its getting into and around brush so much better when woods hunting. Its the only coil I use anymore for that type of hunting. HH jim tn

I thought about buying the Nel sharpshooter but if there's not that much difference between the stock and the Fisher dd I'll keep using the stock for now. I
also like the solid coil of the Fisher. Maybe I'll buy later if something changes my mind.

The solid 5X9½ DD I keep on my F-19 Ltd. and it works well. That was the 'standard' coil on that model which I prefer to the 11" BiAxial that is close to 7X11. I have owned a couple F-75's and several Teknetics T2's that had the 11" Bi-Axial 'standard' and I didn't like it as well as the mid-size coils. The NEL Sharpshooter is a good 5X9½ but is open-frame and I had sites where the short stubble or downed tree twigs and small branches were difficult to deal with, as with those open 11" Bi-Axial coils.

I prefer small-coils for most places I hunt and mid-size coils the rest of the time. I very seldom opt for a larger-size coil such as the 11" Bi-Axial. I generally hunt in dense iron debris or go after coins in trashier places where a good mid-size coil can still work well in detection depth, if there are no nearby masking targets. They provide good separation in trashy conditions, and a solid design can work in the brushier places better.

I have some mid-size coils on-hand that I use on some of my 8 detectors. An open-frame 5X8 DD on a Vanquish 540 and open 5X9½ on a Racer 2. I keep the 5X9¾ solid DD on my F-19, and my F-75+ wears the 3½X6½ Concentric, but in my Accessory Coil Tote I have an MGC 5X8 solid-body coil on a lower rod to switch to in some of the areas where a mid-size coil is desired.

As for the VDI read-out, I have found the mid-size coils to be 'tighter' and more accurate on coins and such than what I got out of the 11" Bi-Axial coils. Just my experiences.

Thanks for the reply and info Monte. I've read a few posts where some say they get too many iron false signals with the SS. Others with no complaints and some like the Fisher solid for all the reasons you've stated. I do have the little football fisher concentric which is great little coil. It's a keeper! That little coil finds things that I've missed with the larger coil because of masking. I have no trouble with bottle caps using that coil.
I've been kinda leaning towards the Fisher dd but I'm still watching videos and reading reviews.

The small football shaped coil is great for woods hunting. The one I use pinpoints very close to the nose of the coil instead of near the middle like my other F75 coils.
 
I agree. I'm a creature of habit. And some habits are hard to break. From the beginning with my first F75 I used the two coils that came with it. The 11dd and the 5in round (puck) for years. I found many exciting articles and coins. This year in the beginning of the season I purchased the (football) concentric coil. As mentioned above this coil worked so well in the woods,soccer fields etc.. I used it for most of the year with great results. Wish I had purchased it years ago lol...hhrickinmi
 
I prefer my 9.5 x 5.5 (or is it closer to 10x5 the way I measure) for most hunting now. The concentric is great at ID’ing and does not not get hung up in heavy brush as easily at the standard 11”. My biggest mistake is not having used it more but that’s changed. Spent most of yesterday again around 2 old colonial cellar hole sites with it. I like the balance too. Using the F75 exclusively yesterday instead of another (popular) detector I’ve been heavily using the last 4 years was a nice change. Reminded me why I bought the F75 and to use it more.
