Lead game piece or what?

Found this at a home site from the 1870's built by a Confederate veteran. As can be seen it's the size of a penny but about twice as thick. It weighs .35 of an oz. I think by the look of it it was pored into a mold and not hammered into shape. Just a guess. Any info will be appreciated.

Great find Terry. This appears to be a poker chip or game piece carved from a lead Minnie' ball. This could have been carried by this veteran through the war or possibly carved after the war. Maybe this was carved as a momento to some battle, or maybe this was carved from a ball that wounded the veteran. The possibilities are endless, and to me it is fun to ponder the possibilities. But it does appear to me to be a carved game piece. These are neat to find. Congrat's on a nice save.

Thank you sir. Those are some very interesting points you made and I can see how the list of possibilities could be endless.

Hey BigTony thanks for the response. The hem weights I have found so far are like this but that's not to say this one couldn't be one.
So that gives me more insight.

Terry, first off your lucky to have a smart Governor!
NJ is stuck in close mode. But that is a topic for another forum.....

Yeah, that is a large one - mine are usually smaller with holes like button holes, although I have found the kind in your photo.

Interesting find you have - maybe it is a game piece? would there be any writing on them? If it was.

Tony our Governor may or may not be wise, time will tell. But that's another forum.
Yes it is the largest one I have found most are the size of a dime.
Because it is so precise in size I lean toward a game piece for now. I hope to get more responses.
 
Possibly a bale seal? Is there any sign of where there were two small wires coming out of the side? They may only be rust spots now and thy would be close to each other. I couldn't see any in the picture you posted even after enhancing it.
