Am I Wrong

Been watching the infamous auction site and other market places and it appears that with the lead-up and now the release of Minelab's new detector series the demand for a Deus has almost evaporated. I know time marches on and what was the latest and greatest isn't so much anymore. But realistically, to move a Deus 1 with WS-4 wireless headphones and one x35 coil requires a serious re-evaluation of value and probably an asking price south of $500. Am I wrong??

I think this is what people need to consider before running for the next best thing Jim...are YOU happy with your current machine and the results you get with it? If a person has been doing well with what they have, they aren’t as apt to make a change for the sake of change, though that happens more than I can believe. Looking at how much a piece of electronic equipment costed when bought can’t necessarily explain why it might be worth so little now, but the actual performance of it remains unchanged, and THAT is what really matters. Does it still do a good enough job for the owner? People change phones, cars, houses, jobs, etc like I change underwear, and I’m a pretty clean guy! If someone has the money and they just want to get something else “because”…I don’t care how a person spends their money. I have a couple iPhones that I couldn’t get 50$ for, but paid several hundred for each. It’s our “throw away” (or in this case “almost give away”) society at work. And as always, something is always worth EXACTLY what someone is willing to pay for it. If you’re looking to sell, the reality of the market is upon you. If you’re looking to buy, you’re in the drivers seat.

Might be time for XP to listen to their customers and consider a long asked for 6” coil, improved tid, glitches with the mi6 improvement, etc. I will keep my D1 regardless. Love #9 Hot program with the x/y screen. It really is a great backup detector that has paid for itself at least 4 times over in my book. It is so light, easy to jump out of the truck and get goin with. If it’s paid for where’s the loss. Pare down the accessories if u wish but when it becomes a vintage machine it will still be worth having.

I'll assume your in the US, but here in the UK its the Nox that seems to have taken a hit, okay we all no why, but the Deus seems to be holding up at the minute.

Thanks for the reply guys. My post wasn't meant to be a rant, but more so an observation. IDXmonster hit the nail on the head when he said we live in a throw away society. Combine that with "instant gratification" and you have the perfect storm for hype to overwhelm better judgment. Sure, your machine does everything today that it did yesterday, but that doesn't seem to matter (I'm strictly referring to resell value) in a marketplace driven by big claims of the next best thing and well orchestrated youtube videos.

And to be perfectly clear….the “well orchestrated YouTube channels” aren’t necessarily selling anything, except for THEMSELVES and their channel. The more controversy you can generate without having to have your feet held to the fire, the more clicks and views you get. I would say…keep the Deus and go kick ass with it, they’re a proven and KILLER machine. The Deus2 will also do the same for a very long time, Manticore or not. I don’t care how many intricate testing videos are done, what matters are the RESULTS. I know someone will debate this….I don’t care. I’ll get him to see my point sooner or later….
