Losing one productive site after another

You dont always have lots of time or historic sites or storms for beach hunting. Schools and tot lots use to fill the void. I especially liked that chopped up rubber tire
stuff in tot lots. It was like quick sand for coins and jewelry. Now for some reason the powers to be have been replacing wood chips, sand and rubber with a solid rubber mat !!!
Seems as though everywhere you turn, everything is drying up. It aint what it was not too long ago. I can only say Thank God I started 20 years ago when kids were still wearing gold jewelry
and there was no such thing as a cell phone !!!! Such a shame that we have some great new technology for our detectors and not much left to find !!!!

Now if someone could build a detector that detects only gold, we could cleanup all the parks and school yards !!!! Dream on but maybe some day someone may find the answer,

Agree. Last time out my brother made the comment after a couple hours hunting, come check this signal it's the best worst signal I've had.
There isn't any good signals left just iffy ones.
 
Schools are off limits in Sc. All are behind fences with locked gates. Old no longer used sites are sold. A lot of playgrounds have signs “for residents use only” Parhs take a beating. Thankfully I have three beaches within about 30 miles. Gives this transplanted West Virginia boy a place to play.

Not just kids everybody was wearing more gold 20 years ago. With the price and economy nobody can afford jewelry anymore. Not even silver.
We are getting better detectors but unfortunately the finds are just not there like they were. The best detector can’t find whats not there.
 
You’re right Donna, it’s tough. Frankly, I’m quite surprised that the metal detector markets seem to be doing pretty well, given the amount of fairly readily available stuff there is left to find. You, me and everyone else are waiting for that gold sniffer to come out, but that’ll be awhile as you know…😃
 
The old park I go to is down to the point of digging the iffy's, once in awhile you get lucky and pop an old silver but you have to negotiate the nails of which there are still plenty, faster is better than deeper where I hunt most of the time. The silver lining I guess is I have been able to hone my skills in difficult situations.

One of my favorite places to hunt is under bleachers. I enjoy the challenge. Unfortunately not many are in dirt anymore. Lots on concrete slabs. Another location gone !!!!

Complete agreement on Faster Vs Deeper. Dense modern trash around picnic areas and similar high-use urban locations, as well as the very Iron-contaminated ghost towns, homesteads and other out-of-the-way locations definitely call for a smaller-size coil and a detector with a Quick-Response and Fast-Recovery circuitry design. Deeper target opportunities are few and far-between most of the time when I set out to enjoy a day.
