My first Fall field hunt of the year

I tried a new permission yesterday. The farm is about 100 acres and I don't think I've found the main house site yet, I hope not.
I was a little disappointed with finding so little but the walking half made it a good day.
Something I've noticed a lot lately, on deeper or misshapen nonferrous targets the Deus II will a decent amount of iron tones. More in one direction than the other. So if I get a good nonferrous tone, even if mixed with some ferrous tones in one direction, I dig. If it sounds deeper that is.

Congrats on the finds, Jayhop. That walking half is a beauty. Prolly lots more there. I walked around an old farm that was once the site of a pick your own orchard. Found nothing but scrap. What detector were, you hunting with?

Thanks.
I was using the Deus II with the 11in coil. I just can't use the Equinox after the Deus II. Mainly because of the ergonomics.
I have a Manticore on order, hopefully it will swing better than the Equinox.

Thanks.

I'm concerned about the weight/balance of the Manticore.-----Looking at the build of the two (Equinox & Manticore)---how can the ergonomics be much different???

I have the same concerns.
But in the videos I've seen most people say it's better. It has a raised arm cuff and the handle is at a different angle.
Of course the big thing will be the performance.

Not a bad day at all Jay! What freqs/program were you using? Have you noted the behavior you described in different programs using different freqs or have you tried different ones?

Thanks,
I pretty much just use Deep HC modified.
I just brought that up because even though this was my first field hunt this fall I have been doing a lot of hunting in the woods over the last 2 months. I've dug several minie balls as deep as 13" and ones that were mishapened that didn't sound very cleaned.

Having swung them both I liked the Manticore. I will admit it was only for a short time the quality and thought that went into the design really stood out.

You have a nice early site with the flat buttons and Feather ware pottery. New sites are always fun to hunt it might take a few outings to get used to the layout.

Sometimes iffy signals are puzzling. It is good you are getting some high conductor tones. As you reach the depth limit of a coil, won't the ID and tone become weaker and a high conductor object would come back and read as a lower number?

As far as the a tone in sweeping one way and not the other, I read this the other day for Double D coils on deep or weak targets. This would be a common experience with any brand detector.

One side for the coil is the transmitter and the other half of the Double D is the receiver.
So if to transmitter side of coil goes over the target first on a swing the receiver coil is second over the target and gets the return signal. You hear and see the ID
On the opposite return swing the receiver coil passes over the target first and transmitting coil half would be secondary and send the signal but the receiving coil will not see a return signal because it is now too far away.

To me this makes sense. provides another clue for what you see and hear.

Nice finds I have the 900 just got today and it’s way better in hand than the 800 especially build and coil ears I have a Deus 2 also but I struggle with it on my beaches black and purple sand and iron it’s so noisy,

I found the main house site on this permission. This site isn't loaded with finds but I've found some that I am very happy with.
