Dont be afraid of relic mode...

Deus 2 relic mode, threshold on 1, notch 01 to cut out the ground and stones that plague some of my sites. 2 tiny pieces, gilded swinger is probably 13th or 14th century, silver item is possibly a button that would have had a wire shank, or its a pin head. Both small, both gave good signals.

Tested in air on a small 1 inch square of gold leaf that weighs nothing ,,high carat 23
Only 1 other prog would see it and not very well

Targis, was that 1 other program gold field?
From the manual, "RELIC is processed in the same way as GOLD FIELD but uses lower subtracted frequencies search for large masses".
Relic uses 4KHz-24KHz where Gold Field uses 4KHz-40KHz...

Try a gold nugget instead of gold leaf. If you don't have one, use lead split shot or aluminum foil crumpled about the size of a BB.
I think lead is a better comparison to gold, but I've heard some nugget hunters insist aluminum is a better test medium.
See if your results change. The higher frequency programs should perform better with the smaller target.

Yes gold field ,,I tested relic on .6 puck and relic on .71 puck and .6 is best for depth there’s a difference in depth..gold leaf is a tough test to beat ..
