Battery Holder Modification

Well-known member
I have a Garrett cx11 . I’ve been looking around to buy a spare battery holder for it . The problem is , is that they are not being made anymore . No one seems to have them . I was thinking of opening it up and soldering a 9v connector and buying a 6 AA battery holder to hook up to that instead of using the original 6 c batteries in that pain in the bud original holder . I’ve seen a few Garrett’s that are being sold on the big e but can’t be tested because they don’t have the battery holder . Also the whites TM 808 has that funky battery holder . The TF 900 came with the 9v connector , much easier to change batteries. Any ideas or has anyone tried this before ? Thanks

My theory is it would work to try a detector out, but not a replacement for the factory one. The reason is there may not be enough storage in the AA and would run out of amp to run the detector for long. .
I wonder if you could build or someone build a pack of Rechargeable 6 C batteries that would work. The one used for rechargeable power tools with the soldering tabs on them would be the answer to this problem.
Lets see what others think of this idea., Some of the battery store that rebuild batteries for power tool could even build them for you.

Hi Rick , thank you for your reply . I have a question . So if I understood right , the C battery stores more energy than a double A even thou they are both 1.5 v ? If so , is it because one has a larger diameter than the other or something else. Thanks

Albert that is what I understand that the bigger batteries have more storage like the gas tank on your car, a big tank goes farther than a small tank. the volts mean nothing on a battery compare to the amps it can put out which would be like your C cells compare to the AA which store very little and could wear out faster and even get hot as it is pulling more amp compared to the C cells which has more storage capacity ..
I found out the hard way with the 18 volts battery pack for my chain saw like the ones that I use for my power tools, it was 18 volt and mounted the same way, but not as big size wise. well I was just finishing my last cut and the battery went dead, so I grab the one for my drill and was going to finish the cut. the the battery in and tried cutting the log only to have the battery go up in smoke and caught fire and ruin the battery as it wasnt made for the high amps of the chain saw.

Hi Rick , I honestly didn’t know that the physical size of the battery had anything to do with amp or voltage capacity . Thank you for making me aware of this . Why Garrett quit making the battery holders for these detectors is not good . I’m sure plenty of detectorist still own them . Like you said Rick maybe see if any of those battery places might be able to build some kind of battery holder for those detectors . Thanks

Hi Straker , I did and he doesn’t have any . Last time I talked to him , he said he was getting a new order coming in but nothing and that was months ago . I did buy a white imaging coil for the gti 2500 . They are getting hard to find . That was his last one.

Is this the battery holder you are looking for ????

I wish I could sell it separately but I have to sell with the whole machine. I have a virtually new CX plus. Id like to sell the machine with spare battery pack.
I can sell for $275 plus shipping if you are interested. The coils are still white. Uncle bought and appears as though it was never used.

PLEASE DO NOT ask to sell battery pack separately Its all or nothing sorry.

Hi Donna (NJ) , that’s the battery holder I was asking about . Can’t find it anywhere. Thanks for posting the pic . That’s a nice looking cx , but I’ll have to pass on buying it . I was just looking for a spare battery holder . I hardly use my cx11 and it’s mostly for collecting . Thanks and HH
