Question re Fisher 1265-X batteries / voltage / wiring

Blackthorn

New member
Hi folks – new here, and to the hobby. I just bought a Fisher 1265-X, more for finding buried pipes, cables, and dropped bolts in the grass than goodies, though wouldn't turn the latter down if encountered. Question please: I see that some previous owner has wired in a pair of 9V (what we used to call "transistor radio") batteries, instead of the array of 8 x AA. (The internal holders for the AAs are gone.) I'm naturally concerned the 9Vs are giving too much voltage for the electronics. How were the original battery holders wired – each foursome in series, therefore 6V, and then the two foursomes in parallel, still 6V? Or were all 8 AAs in series, thus 12V?

Best, I know, to obtain suitable replacement AA battery holders, which I will – but then I'll still have to know how to wire them in.

(Have sent a similar message to Fisher Labs, but they haven't responded yet.)

Thanks all

Blackthorn, that reminds me of the Catskills resort of the same name. I can’t help with wiring so You might want to post this same question in the other forum, Modification forum. Plenty of folks fixing or changing older machines.
I bought new battery holders at Mouser online. You might need to match a picture of yours to their site to get a match.
I had a fisher CZ 7 changed from 9 volt to two 6 pack double A’s with new battery holders, works great.
Also I believe 6 double A’s equal one 9 volt, 1.5 x 6 equals 9. 1.5 x 8 equals 12 volts. So post this in the other forum and see what comes up.
Is Fisher still in business, if so call them.
Tony

Managed to find the more-or-less OEM AA battery holders here in Europe: https://www.ebay.fr/itm/30366435350...tmex3PNSinTO7Ybn5OLPCHI+k=|tkp:Bk9SR7axpdipYQ. Will thus restore original voltage and forget all worries.

(Thanks to Carl-NC for above message, plus DaveK-NC for also specifying the part in recent thread https://www.findmall.com/threads/fisher-1265-x-1266-x-battery-holders-available.359662/.)

Wouldn't mind a battery cover and screw knob, if anyone knows where to order one, so I don't have to resort to duct tape. Merry Christmas all

I found a battery cover in my stock of Fisher parts. It's NOS but the foam battery cushions will need replacing (easy-peasy). PM me your address and I'll mail it to you.

Carl-NC that's most extremely kind of you! I can't PM yet; apparently I have to wait till 14 days after my registration. Will get back to you in a few days. Happy new year

Hi Carl-NC – will take a little longer to be able to PM you. Thanks in advance for patience

I use 2 9 volt batteries in mine, and it works fine

Would you please attach pictures of battery compartment and wiring in order to see for mods.
I will look for my 1265X in the garage and will post pictures too.

Some pictures from me.
