Manticore Software problem?

Andy NM

Member
My Manticore does not do the automatic ground balance in all beach modes.
The manual says it should but it does not.

Even manual GB does not work in the beach modes. You can change the values, but GB does not work.
In the other modes GB automatic works fine.

Best regards from Germany.

Sounds like a problem/glitch with your detector.

I do not have my Manticore yet so I cannot verify: The manual GB does not function in the beach modes because by default the recommended Tracking Mode in ON as the it continuously changes the Ground Balance. This is true for the Goldfield mode also. Maybe if you manually turn the Tracking Mode OFF, you might be able to do a manual GB.

The manual says it should automatic and manually GB in all beach modes. But it does not. Ground tracking on does NOT change any ground value as it should be.

This is a software bug.

Andy, Terry from Hi had the same issue and kept forcing a factory reset until it resolved itself. I think I would try a reset then wait until the next morning to try again. (I own a freightliner and it gets all fubar’d up when too many commands are given in a short time.).

Thank you for your answer. I have done a reset a few times, but it does not change anything.
I have talked an written with at least 6 Mantocore owner now and all have the same issue. All 6 Manticores do NOT ground balance in any Beach Modes.
This is a general software problem. Dan from Texas just got his Manticore and he has the same problem. All other modes GB just fine. It is only the Beach modes.

I even contacted Minelab about it and I was told my Manticore and that one of a friend here in Germany are the only ones he has heard of and I should sent my detector to the distributor to have it fixed/exchanged, but that is not solveing the problem. What can they do? Exchange for an other Manticore with the same software problem? A Joke...

I contacted the distributor and asked a person to take a Manticore out of the box and check if it is different. He went outdoor and testet the unit and it did NOT GB in Beach mode.
So...same problem and it proofs that exchanging the detector does not help.

Many user won't even notice the problem if they never use the beach mode. And if they use the Beach Mode and GB they may not even notice that the unit is not really ground balancing.

Also it is very important to know that you have to select the mode first and after that to ground balance. Ground balance does NOT carry over from one mode to another.

Best regards,

Andy

Correction: Terry had lost the long press noise cancel, not the GB issue.

Great update Andy, not what any of us wanted to hear tho.
Thganks again

New units can always have issues. That's why I usually wait a few weeks until I buy a new released detector. This one was a gift from a beautyfull women.

The Manticore is a great detector. In my soil the best I have ever used in matter of depth and target ID. I'm sure Minelab is going to fix that software bug with an update and we are all happy.
I hunt in the ALL TERRAIN mode (General or Fast) most of the time. So that Beach GB problem is not that important for my success right now. I just want that Minelab takes care of it.

Update:

Here is the new information about the Manticore not ground balancing in beach modes on normal inland ground:

The detector needs to see salty ground conditions to ground balance in any beach mode. I got that answer straight from Minelab. So it is NOT a software bug, it's a feature.
But that should be noticed in the manual.

Thanks to Peter, Brandon and Philip from Minelab for the help.
