Just cant seem to part with my e-Trac ...

Willee - Texas

Well-known member
Have had the Equinox 600 for a few years now, just ordered a new Nox 900.
But ... I keep coming back to my E-Trac.
There is something about the E-Trac I just cant seem to put into words.
Yes, it is heavy to swing and the display is dim and hard to see but the performance ... wow.
First off it is stable in the park or on the salt water beach ... it can hunt places where other detectors fail.
Then the tones ... after a while this machine starts talking to you.
You can hear the subtle differences between good and bad targets without looking at the numbers.
Perhaps this is why I like the E-Trac as much as I do.
Hoping the new Equinox 900 will have the same tonal qualities or perhaps I will need to spend hours learning its language.
If I can get that level of performance from it I will retire the E-Trac and pass it on to someone else.
For now the E-Trac is my most dependable detector.

I guess it's a case of "if its not broke, dont fix it" the old explorer range, right up to the ctx have something that's lacking in the newer models.

I have eq800, Manticore, F75 LTD2 and E-TRAC. Cant seem to part with mine either.

Did you figure anything out on the tones on the 900 ?
I bought a 900 a couple weeks ago and I have the etrac to so I know what you mean about the etrac language. I have been using 5 tones and it's disappointing compared to the etrac but I'm switching over to all tones because I think that will be closer to what I'm used to.
So far each time I start hunting it's with the etrac and then switch over for a while, it will be hard to sit the etrac down.
