Observations of 1.10 beta test version and a question about the coil

oldkoot

Well-known member
I have been testing the 1.10 Beta test version, and other than a couple issues that I have personally witnessed and reported to Nokta on the provided email, on the Legend I did the testing with I am really liking this new version 1.10 which will be changed to 1.11 once finalized.

The TIDs (Target IDs for newbies) seem much more stable from previous versions with this Beta Test version 1.10, when the Legend locks on to a target I am not seeing the IDs jumping all over the place, like they were for me in previous versions, also on the ground I detect the GB (Ground Balance) seems to be more stabilized from previous versions, I have two legends one I have not updated just yet but will, so my observations are from running one legend with 1.10 and the other with 1.09 side by side, the tones are another thing I have noticed on the Legend with 1.10 I thought the tones were good in 1.09 but the 1.10 tones sound even better to me, with 1.10 much clearer tones.

one thing I have also noticed is when the coil gets over a target in the 1.10 version the target is almost dead center on the 11 inch coil on the center bar that runs from heel to toe just ahead of the stem (this seems to be the hot spot) on the 11 inch coil, the 11 inch coil when I have located a target and wiggle back from said target seems to be even more sensitive at the front edge of the 11 inch coil then what it was in previous versions, it just seems to be way more sensitive at the edges of the 11 inch coil from previous versions, the depth of the Legend with 1.10 also seems to be even deeper in my ground which is extremely mineralized, the legend with the 1.10 version seems to get through my mineralized ground much much better than previous versions, I am seeing depths that I could not achieve with the previous versions on my legend with the 1.10, and I am not talking small depth changes but 2-5 inches of gained depth in 1.10, my Legend with the 1.10 I can now run my Sensitivity up to around 25-27 where before I could only get it to 15-19 before it would get so noisy that it was UN bearable

One thing I will add is another observation before when my Legend would lock on to a target and give me a TID the TIDs would be bouncing around now they are not with 1.10, also another observation that would happen in previous versions when I would get over a target in one of the SMF modes I would switch to a different SMF mode just to see if there was a variance in TID numbers for a target I would run through all three SMF and all five SF (single Frequencies) in previous versions there would be a slight variance in TID numbers depending on which SMF or single Frequency you were in in, 1.10 I am no longer seeing a variance in TIDs in any Of the SMF or SF frequency modes

Now to my question where should the hot spot on the Legend 11 inch coil be or what is others observations as to where the hot spot is, on the 11 inch coil I have been testing the 6 inch coil also but the six inch when the Legend locks on to a target the hot spot is almost the hole coil because of its size.

Thanks OK…. I was hoping for a comparison like this….The GB situation was my main concern…numbers jumping I could live with but nice that they’re fixed….TID’s changing with different settings was a PITA but now fixed is a welcome change….Running higher sensitivity and running deeper is a bonus too…..Sounds like NM hit this one out of the park….I’ll download to 1.11 when it’s finalized… Thanks again for your report !……Jim

I am not going to commit to saying the GB is fixed just yet but I will say so far the GB on the ground I detect seems much better and much closer to what I thought it should be

my issue was on the ground I detect which is on the extreme side of mineralization I would perform a ground balance be it auto or manual ground balance my GB numbers would be in the low to mid 90s, I would start detecting and the GB numbers would start tracking down until they reached 0 (this would occur without GB tracking activated) then both my Legends would become so unstable they were UN usable, but if I activated ground tracking, rite after I performed the GB, the GB numbers would hold at the initial values, yes they would change slightly one way or the other with tracking activated, but not all the way to 0, if I started out with GB tracking activated the GB values would stay up in the 90s and would change a little one way or the other but again not change to the point that my GB values ended up at 0, now with the 1.10 soon to be 1.11 my one Legend with the 1.10 is not doing what I just described, so we shall see once the final version is released to us but like I said I am currently liking what I am seeing in 1.10

GB numbers would be in the low to mid 90s,
I've been looking into this. I mentioned before my GB is around 4. On another forum, Jeff McClendon who also lives in Colorado and has high magnetite content like mine also gets similar numbers on his Legend and also with his Equinox 800. That puzzled me. Then I got to thinking about your high salt content, which you said was about maxed out. I have no bars salt content and doubt Mr. McClendon does either. I'm pretty sure salt is at the opposite end of GB. I don't understand why it would drift though. Mine doesn't drift at all. Whatever the update did, I'm glad it helped. It is a nice machine.

Mine also drops to 0 with tracking off, but my soil is not as mineralized as yours….same basic scenario….As I said earlier, I will download the final 1.11……Funny ,..I just updated one of my music programs to version 1.1.1……and it’s working great !…..Hopefully an omen !!…😄

yes sir I read some of jeffs replies and that is what is so puzzling on the GB because he kept telling me he was having no issues my salt content bars on the mineral meter run any where from 4-7 bars on the iron particle side left side runs pegged at 10 bars 99% of the time i use the mineral meter all the time

This is great news to hear, thank you for the detailed info. I'm waiting for the finalized v1.11 version & the snow to melt, before I update, mine & my wife's Legends. I just bought a Equinox 900 a few weeks ago, & once the snow melts, it will be interesting to see, how the Legend with the v1 11, stacks up against the nox 900. To many detector snob's, don't give the Legend, the respect it deserves.

What else is better for the same money ($500)

Are y
I'm not exactly sure by what you mean by "hot spot".
are you referring to my statement about the hot spot on the coil

if you are what I mean is every manufacture on their coils there is a spot on the coil that is more sensitive to targets (Hot Spot) on a coil and what I have noticed on the legend 11 inch coil, just ahead of the stem (Shaft) seems to be the most sensitive spot on the 11 inch coil

Yes, sir, I am. I would say mine is about the same place if the coin is somewhat flat to the coil. It might vary a little if the coin is tilted. It's funny too that if the coin is vertical in the ground, the only part of the coil that will pick up the coin, if you swing in the long direction of the coin, is about even or a little past the toe or the heel . Oddly, too, is a small piece of iron like a tiny chain, BB, or piece of wire sound off on the edge of the coil. I would imagine that has something to do with people digging for deep targets finding iron outside of the hole they dig.

I don't think in the $500 price range, there is anything better, than the Legend. Now I have a active 10% off coupon code, for Kellyco detectors. & You can get a Equinox 700 for $629 shipped. No tax or shipping charges. I don't know if the new nox 700, is better than the Legend though. The code is REDDITMD. You can use that code for anything at Kellyco.

Feature wise its more on par with the 800. Before i hear a bunch of flak,
I said feature wise. Performance everyone has there own opinion.
I don’t know how much the 800 or 900 would be with the discount but but certainly more than $500
Either way even if you say the 600,700 is better its still more.
The answer still is nothing is better at the $500 price point imo

Detection capabilities it is on par with the Nox 800 and 600 also
