Nokta Legend numbers

Thats why i say its different for everyone.
If i was hunting for old coins or even jewelry anymore, every single time would be a complete waste of time around here not to mention a bounty hunter probably wouldn’t pay for itself.
I do it to escape the bs in life and get some air and exercise.
I like my detector to have certain features to play around with but in the end its the mystery of what i might find as everything is essentially a piece of history even a simple gum wrapper.
I actually like the odd things that you have to figure out what it is and how it got there. then again im an odd person lol.
My neighborhood is a wooded area/ partial nature preserve and was an old aviation target range during WWII. they would practice from a small airport about 10 miles away, fly out over the water and drop along the coast line.
The preserve area had a small mill town back in 1910 that was eventually leveled to the ground. Considered a ghost town along with some other small areas including a port used during the civil war. Before that partially Indian stomping grounds. Unfortunately the soil is like beach sand and doesn’t hold things very well and those areas with the historic areas are all government property.
As for the numbers if you basically dig everything weather it is a old coin or old cog the numbers don’t matter. others are more specific and only want to use their time and energy digging old silver coins for example. And thats fine. Whatever floats your boat as they say.
A few get too wrapped up and want detectors to be made to only find certain things they want and not waste their time lol. In general they are all “metal” detectors. Can’t really fault it for sensing metal as they are designed.
There are some “gold” detectors, but no guaranty it’s always gold.
Maybe someday they will invent the “old silver coin” detector that will pick up on old silver coins and nothing else.
Lord knows that any new detector that also picks up any aluminum or iron in the process sucks lol

My buddy runs an xp orx, which is basically a deus in power with a few less features…..His numbers are rock solid too, not at all like the Legend’s jumping around….He puts his orx in the stock coin fast mode and goes on his merry way….I’m gonna keep my full kit Legend for the beach, and will get an orx for land….

The ORX is a great machine, I had one, then sold it and bought a Deus, but I seldom use more than 1 or 2 of the programs.

This topic is interesting. I currently have a Legend and didn't really notice any bouncy vdi issues or the different numbers on the same target with several passes. I am a mostly tone hunter too though because I was a Tesoro guy for a long time. Maybe I just haven't mastered the VDI scale enough to notice.

I think that some, but not all of the numbers jumping around is soil conditions, and whats in the soil….I’m hearing that the numbers in the new 1.10 are more solid….I’m waiting for the non beta version to come out before downloading…I’m still a bit gun shy after updating a couple of months ago ..🙄

Numbers aren't solid on any detector when another target is interfering, when EMI is interfering, when your phone is interfering, when your coil cable is loose or for a number of other reasons.

You can hear the difference in the tones of different target so you know what your digging . I have had that so long they do not even make the coil that came with it anymore
I bet if you use your new detector as long you will be able to tell what you're digging. Here's proof!
When I went out today I had to stop looking at the numbers going all over the place and hunt by sound as every sweep no matter slow or fast were never the same.
I did manage to dig up 7 quarters, 9 dimes, 3 nickels., and several pennies. Along with three bling jewelry .

Picketwire,
I would agree with you except when going over the same target in the same area and getting different results with your numbers being consistant, or your numbers jumping around depending on the detector, it’s evident that it’s a detector issue…I would guess that it’s a filtering issue, but I’m no expert on the subject..Every detector has its strong and weak points…I can work around jumpy numbers…not a problem…solid numbers would be a plus

Was a Tesoro guy also. Never a vdi guy but just now starting to come around the whole vdi and numbers thing. Seems everything is shifting towards that.
Used to be mainly for coin hunting I thought because if you hunted everything you were basically digging everything anyway or at least using disc and tones hunting by sound.
Im sure part of it is in today’s technology advanced world people are obsessed with wanting as much information as possible.and helps sell new detectors.
Might not have mastered the vdi scale but detectors haven’t mastered it either.
Show me one that is even close to 100%
accurate in identifying a target every time by numbers.

“Show me one that is even close to 100%

There are machines out there that are pretty good with vdi’s but there are many targets that will have the same number even when you have a wider vdi scale….It’s the nature of the beast !…Now if you can have a detector that will give you tell tail audio that will let you know the difference, you’ll be ahead of the game…No detector is fool proof, but some will get you closer to finding good targets….One of the best machines that I own when it comes to vdi’s still gives me the same numbers for certain pull tabs as it does for gold rings…🤬…..I can’t even begin to tell you how many pull tabs I’ve dug !

Thats why its a “numbers” game.
The more you dig the more you will find.
If you never dug any pulltab id’s you will probably miss some good stuff

Missed this thread earlier so jumping in late…..
So far jumpy numbers (anything outside the nickel, dime, quarter, half range) I find to be junk. IF, and thats IF, I’m only getting two maybe three close numbers in the same bin (11-19, 20-29, etc) then its more likely a jewelry item or metal button. Now, thats accurate opinion 95% of the time.
By outside the coin range I’m saying if those coin numbers in the mix then I dig no matter.

I don't have a legend but am seriously thinking about purchasing one. Jumping numbers all over the screen I have many times experienced. I've walked through the woods and even fields and have had to look at the detector to see if it's even on!!! But a few more steps and most every number lights up. I've dug these more then once. Majority of the times there's nothing. I've always thought that at one time there was metal ferrous or non ferrous at some point in time. But when you attempt to dig it up there's no shape or form left. Some refer to it as a halo. It's gota be miniscule amounts of something that's been in the ground for a long long time. Once you disturb it and swing back over it. It's gone. Does that make any sense?...hhrickinmi
