Keep it sell an original Excal 1000

Well, I have used an original Excal 1000 for 20 years and this machine has produced. I’m thinking about selling it because I’m not sure if I’m missing finer gold underwater. Curious about the forum’s input on this.

Love the excal, especially it easy to use. Turn on and go
would always have at least one in my arsena. i would keep it for awhile and see how ou make out with a newer mach

Hard to beat an Excall even more so if you upgrade to better headphones than the standard ones. Some detectors are more sensitive to finer stuff but that also means they detect the smaller little pieces of foil too. That is part of the trade off of detection of every little piece of junk vs just detection of a piece big enough to have some value if it is gold.

I still have my original Excal Sword, from 1991, and will never sell it. It still finds the good stuff. It has the original headphones, on it's fourth coil, its original, two WOT coils and now a Excal II coil. A new carbon fiber shaft, the first was broken when it was caught in a Mexican bus door, I was not fast enough to get everything on-board. It has sported the original battery, two replacement batteries, a SunRay battery pack a rebuilt pack by Interstate Battery. All have lasted about 18 hours on a charge but now an EX3000 pack that runs the Sword for almost 50 hours is my main battery. The Sword and an Infinium were my only purchased detectors for some 20 years. Now I have played with ATPro, ATX, Equinox, several ohters hat I have won or given along the way. I am now waiting for my Manticore to be delivered. Each of my 17 detectors had its own uniqueness. But I have to say the Exclibur has found more than any other detector I own. I will agree there are detectors out there that can detect small chains better than the Excal, but they may not be as good in detecting other items.
Your Excalibur owes you nothing after 20+ years, except for a special place in your soul for the pleasure you have enjoyed detecting with it. Sentimental value! Whatever you decide on: May the ring of gold be in your ears and its glitter in your scoop. WaterWalker

Thank you for your post! I use a Nox 800 on land and have been keeping the excal as a backup. Where there’s high EM around the Excal does very well.

Great point about foil and small gold. Tough to differentiate the two due to similar conductivities.

Thanks WaterWalker, this is a great story and advice. The Excal has produced consistently for over 20 years with no issues. Happy hunting!

For about a year I used the F75 LTD on the beach ... I dug more 1/10 to 1/8 inch diameter plastic sequines than I care to think about when it would sound off on the foil side of the sequin. Went back to using the CZs and Excals on the beach and stopped chasing that little annoying stuff. If I did gold field detecting, I'd want to find flakes ... but not on the beach.

This is an excellent point! Thanks for your post.
