I went to a property today that was once a farm house but is sitting at the entrance to a newly designated public hunting grounds. Despite the old and delapidated condition of the house, I only found one wheat penny. Disappointed, I left and was on my way home when mother nature called. I remembered that just about a mile from that house was a porta sitting at the entrance to another newly acquired county owned park that used to be a farm. The county bought the property because it has several small ponds and a small waterfall in the back. So it is now a picnic area with a loop type hiking trail back to the waterfall. Anyhow, I decided to check historic aerials of the area to see the location of any buildings that might have existed there. I could tell by the positioning of the entrance that it used to be a driveway. The trees (some standing and some were stumps) outlined what I imagined was a yard. So I said heck it and pulled out my gear. Within 15 steps I found the 1940 Mercury dime right behind the first stump. I hunted for about 1 hour until dark. Here are my best finds of the day. 1909, 1917, 1925 wheats/1903 V Nickel/1940, 1937 Mercury dimes. I will be back!

Yes, I have about 8 or so and this is the first one I can read both sides.

I was hoping for a VDB wheat but no such luck!
