Finally able to get out and detect

oldkoot

Well-known member
I was finally able to go out and do some detecting yesterday and give the 1.11 a try and also the LG24 coil, I will say this new version is vary stable and seems a bit deeper than the previous versions, there is one thing that is confusing me though, I have two Legends and both are updated to the 1.11 version what is confusing me is one of the two Legends I have are performing completely different from the other one, my first Legend I picked up was one of the first to come into the U.S so it came with 1.04, my second Legend that I purchased to try to teach my wife how to detect was 1.05 version and I had the dealer I purchased from to update to 1.07, I have performed the updates myself my original Legend that came with 1.04 is running way less stable and is not seeing targets near as deep as my Legend that was originally 1.05, something just seems way off with my Legend that originally came wit 1.04, the pin pointing is way off also on the one that was originally 1.04 also I detected for about three hours with both detectors swapping the LG24 coil from one to the other, and the Legend that ooriginally was 1.05 was just running much better than the one that came with 1.04, My Legend that was originally 1.04 is the one I used to do all the beta test versions with and in 1.10 Version 2 it was running fantastic but this is not the case any longer, this one is a head scratch-er to say the least

I really like the way the 1.11 and the LG24 is performing on my Legend that was originally 1.05, but you would think both would be performing the same but sadly they are not any where close to the same performance

I have performed yet another re install of the 1.11 and also performed yet another factory default reset on my Legend that came originally with the 1.04 version, and will give it another run the same way as I did yesterday, and hopefully something will change, but I am starting to wonder how many more re installs and factory resets of updates before my Legend with the 1.04 becomes a brick and becomes un useable all together, my Legend that came with 1.04 originally has frozen on me Multiple times since I installed 1.09 and also after I installed 1.10 beta test version 3, I never had an issue with My original 1.04 legend freezing until the 1.09 update was released to us, my Legend that was originally 1.05 has never froze on me and I have never had an issue with the update process with the one that was originally 1.05 either, so this new issue I am wondering if there is not an issue with it all together.

Needless to say this is getting quite frustrating to say the Least for me, with my Legend that was originally 1.04.

Electronics go figure.
Some people have issues with their cell phones or computers running the same programs that others don’t.
Go to any cell phone or computer forum and you will see things like my cell phone is freezing up or poor battery life and yet others have never had any issues. Its the inherent nature of electronics. I would think metal detectors are just like any other electronics some will get buggy weather its a hardware component or software ir maybe both.
Be interesting to know the failure rate of components like capacitors, diodes, etc and how any tolerances effect the performance

Both machines should be the same. I would suggest calling Andy at the Nokta repair to discuss maybe sending it in for evaluation.

They should but my point with electronics they all don’t.
Don’t believe me just go on Best Buy website for example and look at a flat screen tv. Mine has been on basically 24/7 for years and not one problem. Most will have 4-5 star good reviews but there is always a handful of bad reviews 1-2 stars where people say they are on their 3rd one in less than a year or this problem or that.
If all the electronics were actually the same then everyone would either have the same problem or nobody would have a problem. Maybe you have an explanation that im not aware of and im all ears. You can look at about everything with electronics from cars to cell phones to computers.
Metal detectors no different. You have a perfect example two of the same but operate differently from what you said.
maybe im missing something as i said.
I don’t know exactly what you mean by they are performing differently but im curious myself

You appear to have one peach and one lemon. If nothing changes I’d send it in with your description of the difference between 1.04 and 1.05 units.
A lemon is a great example.
Hence why there are lemon laws because not everything made are equal.
I am more curious as tolerance differences for example you can go over a target in the ground with multiple detectors and get different results some might not even hit the target but then go back the next day or week and get a different result with the same detector maybe emi, soil conditions changed, moisture etc.
and then there is differences between the same model detector over a target.
I recall when i had tesoro’s and maybe could just be the difference between analog and digital but some claimed and ive seen myself slightly different results from two of the same detector.
In a test garden one might hit a target hard and loud where the other not so much or even more clear was a target on the fringe where one detector picked it up very slightly and the other same exact model was totally silent. Curious as to an explanation of why. Was one “tuned” slightly different or a tolerance difference in components. The phenomenon is real perhaps most don’t notice as it takes two of the same exact detectors going over the same target at basically the same time same way.
And of course having a test garden of sorts where you know the target and position.
Maybe 90% of them will perform exactly the same and a few are slightly off. Again interesting to know why.

OK I attempted to call Andy at wedig

this is getting stranger the more I test this issue, I re installed the 1.11 on my Legend that came with the 1.04 version again and performed yet another factory reset, and today I went out and detected taking both my Legends with me, as I stated one came originally with 1.04 and the second one came originally with 1.05 I have both my Legends set up with identical custom user settings, and using the LG24 9.5x6 inch coil on both plus I am also carrying the LG28 11 inch coil with me I started out with the LG24 coil on my Legend that was originally 1.05 Version and the one that was originally 1.04 I had the LG28 coil mounted on it, I used my Legend that was originally 1.05 version to locate several virgin targets flagging each target which I thought was coins because of the custom user programs I have set up, one program is a variation of Mental Metal Detecting s coin program, and the other program is similar to what history revisited uses across the big pond

the first program I am using is set up in F (Ferrous Off) recovery speed 4, IF at 4, ST at 2 and BC at 2 (these can be changed as needed), running 6 tones, my tone break is set at 7,15,27,37 and 50, my break volumes are set volume 1 (iron range), volume 2, volume 10, volume 3, volume 10 for the last two breaks, break pitches are set pitch 1 (iron Range), pitch 2,pitch 25, pitch 3, pitch 28 and pitch 30, I am running these settings in both Park and Field switching between M1 and M2, M2 I am finding to be deeper than M1 in a lot of cases

I did this test using both my Legends using the LG24 coil starting with my legend that was originally 1.05 then switching the LG24 coil over to my legend that came with 1.04, it actually seems that my legend that came originally as 1.04 version does not seem to like the LG24 coil but my Legend that was originally 1.05 seems to really like the LG24, the reason I say this when I use the 1.04 version legend with the LG24 coil everything seems totally off as far as depths and stability both my Legends are running 1.11, when I put the LG28 on my Legend that was originally 1.04 it is a whole different detector and seems to run really good, and I already know what everyone is thinking that I am nuts but I am stating what I am actually seeing

Just an idea man, seems like an awful lot of settings going on there.
I would bet that Andy if you sent it
In would reset everything back to factory defaults and test it.
I know it could be a pain to reset but have you tried just running them both with factory defaults and testing them on the same targets?
Could just be a matter of settings

absolutely have, its the same no matter whether running a custome user setting or in factory defaults which is something I forgot to mention when doing these test I would also switch over to a different user profile that I had not saved anything in, I have my settings in little man #2 and #3 so if i switch to user profile #1 that is still at factory defaults, there was no change in what I seen

Ok just got off the phone with Andy at Wedig he thinks it may possibly be the mother board in my Legend that came with 1.04, he also stated they have had other reports that are similar as well

So they changed the motherboard between v1.04 and v1.05?

I never said that, all Andy said was it could be the mother board, you ar reading more into what I stated then what I stated.
Thats why i was asking i read it as you and others with v1.04 legends could have motherboard issues

And the fact that your legend with v1.05 is fine so i read it as v1.04 could have motherhood issues if he said others also have similar issues meaning others with 1.04 legends. I read it wrong i guess be interesting to see what it is

It is my belief that no two units are the same. I believe when you find a machine that you do will with you should never let that unit go. Stick with it, learn from it, and take good care of it. I don't upgrade any of my machines without waiting for a few months to get feedback from other users. I will never sell my Tesoro Siilver Sabre, nor my AT Pro even though I hardly use either one anymore.
