Does anyone know what this is

I found this at an early 1800s building sight can anyone identify it. I run all my odds and ends of brass and copper through my tumbler when I saw this it intrigued me but couldn’t find anything similar online.
Possibly part of a tradesman's tool? Is there a threaded hole on the flat side? Sort of reminds me of a finial, like you'd see on the end of a ramrod or some other device used to pull one part out of a keeper. If you hadn't found it on such an early site I'd say it was the top of a lamp, the decorative part that holds the shade on to a threaded stud.

The bottom is flat with no holes or threads
