My Legend is a "DUD"

Tommy Boy

Active member
I am so pissed off about my new Legend. As I stated in an earlier post, my 6" coil, that came with the Pro Pack, is chatty and unstable, no matter where I use it. This weekend was my first outing with the Legend, I took it to several different sites, one that I knew for sure had no EMI. I tried the stock 11" coil and it also was chatty and unstable, not as bad as the 6", but never stable. I bought the LG30 coil and tried it, it was the least chatty, but still caused ear fatigue, within 30 minuets.

I bought my Legend Pro Pack about a week ago, when it arrived, I noticed the hat was missing. I thought well the Inspector that checked the boxes, before shipping them out, did not check my order. I called the seller that I bought the Pro Pack from and he said, no problem, I will send you a hat, he did and I got it in a couple of days.

After taking the Legend out this weekend, it is clear that this Detector and coils, should have never left the factory, so much for Nokta quality control. I just hope that the seller will make this right, From 2000 until 2016, I have used about every detector that was available, so I know a dud when I use one, and my new Legend is a dud.

I have performed the restoring the detector back to factory default, multiple times. I have also performed the update to software version 1.11 multiple times. I am going on a hunt with my brother tomorrow, and I will be taking a Bounty Hunter Land Star detector that was given to me, at least it was given to me.

You should be able to get an exchange from your Dealer. If not, send it in to the repair center and Andy will make it right.

Thinking something internal got jilted off center. Keep us posted!

That is unfortunate , there have been few complaints or examples similar to yours , you must be the unlucky one. Please contact Nokta either through their web page or the service center and be sure to keep us apprised of their responses.

What hat, I never got one either.

Update, seller said send it back for a full refund, hopefully that will happen. I will be selling a new LG30 coil for $100 shipped.
Are you getting a refund or a replacement?

Before selling your coil and giving up on the detector, it sucks what you're going through, but you have to consider that a lot of us have got good machines. I'd give it another try, unless you have another detector you like using, Equinox 900, Manticore, Deus II, etc.
My Legend with the LG30 is currently what I'm using. I'm still learning how to use it, but it keeps right up there now with the other big dogs. I'm using 1.11, and with all the available settings with that new coil it's quite impressive. Hits targets deep, great separation, runs quiet, and currently I have no main problems with it.
You've probably tried everything by now I'm sure, but I would do a factory reset, then reinstall firmware 1.11 again, then factory reset, off/on, and see if it's the same, if so, send it back.
Mines quiet as a mouse with any coil especially after doing the frequency scan. Turning down the sensitivity I can adjust it to where it's quiet, even running it in the house. It handles EMI very well.

The fact that you said you were told that the legend can’t be used around a cell phone or around any kind of emi like power lines etc, or it will be too unstable to use i just have a hard time understanding. Many use the legend around power lines and have there cell phones with them. Some people even live stream there hunts using a cel phone and it works fine. Sounds like you just have one bad one and they are not all like that as you were told. Im sure others can concur

Update, I shipped the Legend back to the Dealer this morning. I tried everything that I could to get it to run smoothly. Maybe it got banged around during shipping to my home. The Dealer told me that to get the best performance when using the Legend, that I should not have my cell phone on me, and I should not be near other detectors or electronics devices, after hearing that I decided that the Legend is not for me. I am going to look at other detectors. Thank you to everyone that posted ideas on helping me

I would think Bart's comments were made in general, as appling to all brands/models of detectors. The Legend is very EMI stable. This situation is unfortunate.

I'm not going to waste my time dealing with Bart. My personal experience with the Legend in deep urban environments with heavy infrastructure near international airports and major Air Force bases nearby is that it is very stable and allows high sensitivities with or without other electronics in the near vicinity. I would switch dealers before machines , just sayin',,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
