Coil charging clip

Does anyone make a replacement that's easy to use? The coil charging clip is very stiff. Maybe I should keep it in a warmer place? I keep snagging it on the coil cover.

Detecting Doodads has one but I even heard someone broke one. Never used one. Be sure your coil cover is on securely. Never had any trouble with the original one. A few years back they redesigned it stronger. Look closely at to see what you are doing. Keep clean contacts on clip and coil.

I have issue using the 3 wire cord .. I use the single wire with the black clip
I bought the DooDads crap it wont work and can not get them to answer back Be careful of them

Don't mess with the doodads guy. Quick to take your money but SUPER SLOW delivery. He will not answer emails. It took almost two months to get the remote locking shoe I ordered. Others have had the same thing happen. And the product isn't all that great. I took it off and put the old one back.

I trimmed the edge of the coil cover to a tapered ramp. Made it a lot easier to put on.

I have the doodads one. My original is now the spare. I received mine quickly and have had no problems. It is much easier to connect than the original but I never tried to taper a ramp like HuntinDog. I have never broken an original one but was afraid I would a couple of times. Keeping the contacts clean is very good advice too.

Haven’t really had an issue not sure what it is everyone is talking about.
I would think you want a nice snug fit for a good contact otherwise you could have issues, excessive heat, poor charging etc.
I do have an issue with the pinpointer cap being too tight though. You would think it’s glued on even without tightening it down hard

My 3rd party clip seems infallible it always works but sometimes the coil cover impedes it’s seating on 9 in coils.gave up on xp clip long ago it’s a horror of bad design

Clip from eBay at 8 quid

Its a horrible design. I immediately bought the doodad thing and thats no better. I like Huntindog's idea of tapering the edge.

I have had ZERO issues with my clip. Mine snaps and locks right on. FYI

Agreed, a little stiff but works like a charm compared to the D1 original clip which had to be wiggled around until you got the charge pins to make contact.

Aren’t they the same clip for the D1 coils and D2 coils ?

It is possible to cut a bevel on the coil cover where the clip tends to get stuck on. It’s easy and helps guide the charge clip on.

Now they probably are the same, but the original D1 clips weren't as stiff and didn't solidly lock in over the coil like the clip for my D2.
There used to be a lot of complaints about the coil clip not making contact. I believe 2018 is when I bought my 11" coil for the D1.
At that time they had a promotion to get $50 in accessories with the purchase of the 11" coil. I got an extra clip as one of the accessories and glad I did.
My original D1 clip broke last year. That 2018 clip was the same as my original D1 clip. I have no idea what year they made the change to the stiff clips.

So you have to choose between having a loose clip with poor connection or a stiff clip with a good connection.
Can’t have it both ways I guess goes with having a wireless coil.
I don’t know that i would mess with the coil that is $399 to replace as opposed to taking a chance with a clip possibly breaking at $15 to replace.

Update
The coil cover on my 9" coil was not tight on one side which was causing some of my problem.

As suggested, I beveled the edges.

I also put 2 wraps of very tight electricians tape on each side of the attachment sides. I did go wider on the outside to avoid the indicator light. No tape where the clip attached.
