Now it has been a long while but recently I have bought one of these again.

I must say it certainly is a lot faster than the xlt ever seemed to be......at least for me anyway.

I did not know this until recently either but it can run from 1khz to 25khz.

I am very surprised by that.

If detech or someone would make a DD coil for it I think it would be a little go getter.

The stock 7.8 coil is pretty good though.

Very fun little unit.

HMMM ! I don't recall it had multi-frequency choices. I thought it was another 6.59 unit ? That detector is about 20 yrs old, right ?

Yes 1996....i downloaded the manual and sure enough it was right there and I have tried it and it works. Yes it takes the old 6.59 coils too.

Yes 6.59....however....you are correct.....25 offsets of 6.59.....I stand corrected.

In the manual it shows 1 to 25 transmit freq.

And several pages over it goes ointo details about them and then it shows they are offset freqs.

If you can find the vhs tape about the Quantum series metal detectors by Randy Smith and Keith Zorger, get it!
The Quantum had to be swept at a certain speed for optimum performance. Not slow or fast.

I had one around 2000 and really liked it. I preferred it over the XLT. Most people swept it too fast. When you figured out the sweep speed is was the deepest Whites unit in the late 90's.

I do like it and it does pretty good for average coin shooting for sure.

I will most likely play with it for a bit and offer it up for sale

Tim and Mark, I sort of messed this thread up. I should have said I had the Quantum XT with 9.5 inch coil. There was a fellow back then that had a "Quantum Bible". He had loads of hints and tips on how to get the most out of the Quantum. I believe his name was Hill, but that too might be wrong. I sure wish I get you his information.
Good luck with the Quantum and let us know how it works for you.

Nice little "beep dig" detector but certainly no XLT, more like its lil brother. Operates on just one frequency 6.59hz, which can be slightly altered by changing Transmit freq 1-25hz for interference from other detectors close by or emi. Can't go wrong with an ole school Whites.
