Nokta 5" coil

I was wondering if Nokta sold a 5" coil for the Impact ? I did not see it on Kellyco's website. However, the little football coil in the Pro pack should work fine , but I do like the 5" coils. Thanks, GS

Yes, There is a 5" round DD coil for the Impact. KellyCo isn't the greatest when it comes to carrying accessories or spare parts like extra lower or middle rods. You may have to order the 5" from overseas.

Nokta's 5" DD coil for the Impact is terrific!

I own every coil made for the Impact and I like them all for different applications. While I can use three for a lot of urban tot-lot hunting, and I do, it is one place where I have enjoyed using the 4X7½ elliptical DD coil. In 'average' sites that present us with an 'average' amount of cluttering discarded trash, the 4X7½ DD has worked fine for me. Around park picnic table areas with a lot of old pull-tabs, modern pry-tabs and the typical screw-on caps and crimp-on bottle caps that are also thrown out there, I used the 4X7½ DD and it handily tackled the debris fields I had to deal with.

Today, I usually use my 7" Concentric coil when first hunting almost any urban or rural site for Coins, Jewelry and all the neat small artifacts we can find out Relic Hunting. However, I do use the 4X7½ DD for some of the tot-lot sites I hunt where it can handily work in and around structures, and it sees others uses, too.

The 7" Concentric is also my most used Relic Hunting coil and it takes on iron nails and rusty tin without hesitation, but as wonderful as it is, all coils can show their strengths and weaknesses at times, and when I am dealing with any old site that has very densely littered nails and other ferrous trash, and since the older sites I like to hunt might also hold lost and easily masked smaller-size coins like silver Half-Dimes or the tiny silver 3¢ coin, I want all the odds to be in my favor and that's a strength of the round 5" DD coil.

I can't link you to my website forums here at Findmall, but you're welcome to drop me an e-mail ( monte@ahrps.org ) and I can direct you to a site of coil evaluations, and also discuss with you how the 5" coil came to be and is a vital part of my Impact accessory coil team. It came about thanks to the performance results of a very challenging test I set up for Oregon Gregg, but once he posted the results it caught Dilek's attention and we had some discussions about search coil sizes, shapes, and how coil designs can behave differently based upon a detector's circuitry design and signal processing, especially in a dense iron contaminated site.

Shortly, I had a 5" DD to evaluate and it definitely met the performance challenge and is a very versatile search coil to have on-hand for times of need. Sadly, as Tom pointed out, Kellyco seems to drop the ball when it comes to providing consumers with available product. The 5" coil was announced on the Forums way back in, I believe, April. Consumers have asked for it and bought it from whatever source they could find, but even when I was checking, several times, during this past month to find detectors, coils and other things to replace what was stolen, Kellyco didn't have the 5" DD Impact coil in their inventory and thee different people I spoke to there said they didn't have it or know it was made.

I just checked, just now, and they still don't show the 5" DD for the Impact or the middle rods for the Impact, and I want to order about four or five of those rods.

Pester them if you must, but the 5" DD coil IS made and SHOULD be available to consumers.

That's a lot of bullarky. Had my Impact and coils arrive within several days of being shipped from Turkey. What are they using ? A canoe by water?

Kellyco want list the 5" DD coil on the website till they are in stock. they are waiting on the stock to arrive that was ordered which takes time coming from Turkey.
The word is won't not want, and anyone who has followed Kellyco for decades KNOWS that they list all sorts of products they don't have in-stock. A new detector is announced and they have it shown/listed to take pre-orders. You know, "Here it comes, order it now ... EVEN THOUGH IT ISN'T EVEN OUT YET!.

Kellyco even jumped the gun on an Impact that wasn't even designed or discussed yet once the Makro Racer was first on the market, showing a sort of gray colored version of the red colored Racer that even irritated the manufacturer, likely done to hamper sales of the Makro product, which they didn't carry at the time, so they were showing a non-existent detector to take orders and it, so don't try to spoof a bunch of us who are more in-the-know about Kellyco's antics. I've seen and dealt with them often since the latter '80s so don't try and tell us Kellyco won't list it until it is in stock.

But let's also consider when they get around to ordering inventory in the first place, especially since they are not just a Dealer but are supposed to be a Distributor for other Dealers as well here in the :usaflag: and :canadaflag:. If you are a big name Dealer and want to offer quality products, as in made by a detector company and not just inferior fluff added in a package-deal, then you want to also offer the available search coils for the detectors you sell. The Nokta Impact has been on-the-market almost all year and many were alert to taking preorders early this year.

Then on July 28th, here on Findmall and other Forums, Dilek at Nokta Detectors, announced the new 7" Concentric search coil. Announced it to everyone so Dealers/Distributors should have immediately noted this new accessory coil and quickly stocked some into the inventory and offer it ... even if taking pre-orders before it arrived! Here's the link from almost 4 months agoi:

NEW CONCENTRIC COILS FOR IMPACT AND RACER!
Posted by: Nokta Detectors
Date: July 28, 2017 07:06AM

Dear Valued Members,

Due to customer requests, we have added a new 7’’ CONCENTRIC COIL to IMPACT and RACER coil assortments.
Please find below the part numbers and the pictures of these new coils.

The coils are available now and we will ship them to dealers as they are ordered!

IMPACT IM18C SEARCH COIL (7") CONCENTRIC BLACK
PART NUMBER: 20000725
MSRP:$129

RACER RC18C SEARCH COIL (7") CONCENTRIC BLACK
PART NUMBER: 20000726
MSRP:$129

Many Avid Detectorists and even beginning Hobbyists pay attention to the various Forums to see what search coils are available, such as the 5X9½ DD open-frame IM-24 for the Impact. That was announced via Nokta Detectors back on June 16th as noted below, but quite a few consumers have had difficulty finding this coil in stock or at times even listed at Kellyco. Here's that link:

Hello all...I get emails from customers asking for an update on the optional coils and headphones for the Impact.

IM24 Waterproof DD Search Coil 24 x 13 cm (9.5" x 5") and IM40 Waterproof DD Search Coil 40 x 35 cm (15.5'' x 14'') are now in production and have shipped to most of the dealers around the world.

Dilek

I just now checked the Kellyco Website, selecting Nokta manufacturer, and it had 3 pages with detectors and accessories. On Page 3 it showed the 7" Concentric and 5X9½ DD open-frame coils, but NOWHERE did I see the middle rods for the Impact (and I need to get 4 of them) nor the excellent round 5" DD coil. This coil was designed to help hunt in very dense iron contaminated sites to unmask desired smaller-size targets like US Half-Dimes, which are kind of like hammered silvers over in Europe.

I had all my extra coils and rods and 5 detectors stolen last month so I set out to re-supply my main use arsenal with replacement detectors and coils. I looked and looked, and called three times to Kellyco in search of the 5" DD for the Impact. It's not to be found!! I kindly got a replacement 5" and 7" out of Turkey, but I just checked, again, and the 5" DD isn't there on Kellyco's website. But look at this announcement:

NOKTA MAKRO COIL ASSORTMENT
Posted by: Nokta Detectors
Date: June 29, 2017 10:00AM

Dear Valued Customers,

Due to customer feedbacks and requests, we have made some changes to the Nokta / Makro coil assortment as outlined below:

• RC26/FC26/FR26 coils have been discontinued and replaced with RC24/FC24/FC24 coils. This new 9.5’’x5’’ non-buoyant design offers convenient use under water.
• FGP24 has been added to the Fors Gold+ coil assortment.
We have added a new 5’’ coil (IM13) to the Impact coil assortment.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.

Regards,

Dilek

JUNE 29th !! There's no need to wait for stock to arrive in inventory when it was announced almost 5 months ago! I have been using the 5" all along and those who could acquire one ... elsewhere ... also have used the 5" with success. I know a lot of consumers have e-mailed or PM'ed me and asked about it and where it is available. Again, no fewer than 3 phone calls to Kellyco over the past several months and then 3 since my 5" was in the stolen items in early October, and I was told by at least two Kellyco sale persons that there was no 5" coil for the Impact. That it wasn't in your/their 'catalog' and that they, Nokta, must not make one for the Impact.

Desired product should be stocked by a serious Dealer, and for certain by any savvy Distributor.

Product could be / should be listed and shown with a Pre-Order statement IF it isn't currently in-stock.

Distributor's should make sure they have stock ordered when their inventory is getting low to be sure to have available inventory on-hand and not run out.

My recent Impact Pro Pack came from a Turkey Dealer and was delivered to the USA in a matter of days. My replacement search coils also came out of Turkey and arrived in a matter of days. Yes, it takes time for product to arrive in Oregon from Turkey, but it shouldn't take as many DAYS to arrive in Florida from Turkey. Your post, 'treasure_hunter', seems to imply that it will take a long, long period of time and that just isn't so. It is a deceiving statement, much like a lot of things we hear out of any bogus outfit out there who we deal with or hear about from time-to-time. Hint!

If you work for Kellyco, you ought to make it a point to not mislead or deceive readers. Tell it like it is or don't post.

If you don't work for Kellyco but know important upper-level people as you have stated in the past, then take them to lunch and talk-shop with them. Point out that they are missing out on business, and that there are a lot of us out here who have been around for a while, or even are newer to the detecting hobby, who have not been or are not currently very satisfied with the lack of Kellyco personnel's product knowledge, and since Kellyco is supposed to be such a big presence in the industry they ought to have a media person assigned to keep up on Forum activity on various Forums to cast a better image of Kellyco and just call it like it is.

Oh, that would be different, for sure, but the many posts I have made the past months regarding the 5" DD coil or anyone's similar post, just make your/their presence known by saying something like:

"We apologize for our oversight and have ordered the 5" DD Impact coils and expect delivery soon. 'Thank You' for bringing this to our attention. It is now posted on our website and we are taking orders now."

Instead, weeks and months pass with more and more detector consumers getting disgusted by the lack of inventory and service by a company that is quick to list and push and sell higher-dollar detectors, but falls short on having any inventory or listing for popular and desired accessories.

I know, not my usual post response since I am a very patient person with a high level of tolerance, but as the year gets close to an end and I am very disgusted with what I am able to see and order, as are many other consumers and dealers, I don't mind letting loose and speaking my mind now and then. Well, this is now,

Monte

Thanks Tom, going to try the little coil that comes in the Pro Pack 1st. GS

That's a great coil, one of my favs to be honest. Not too big and not so small you fell like your trying to paint a 747 with a Q-tip!

I love the little 5" OOR coil on my Racers, BUT to be honest, I like the NEL Snake coil better. It's just as, if not more, effective then the OOR with a little bit better coverage, but you cannot go wrong with either coil IMHO.

GS, there is a lot we might anticipate or expect fro a search coil based on size/shape and internal design. and it also depends on the conditions we are likely to encounter at out chosen hunt sites and hope to have in the way of success when it comes to good-target un-masking in very dense iron trash. When the years started, the 3-coil Impact Pro Pack seemed to be just a fine batch of coils to cover my typical hunt sites. It was a very wintry January and we had record-setting cold temperatures to complement the record-setting snowfall. Here in Vale, Oregon our 'average' annual snowfall totals to 12.2", and the water content from that and what rain we get in our arid high-desert region combines to 10.5" of precip water a year. There was one DAY last January when we received 12" by 10 PM that day and it was still snowing, and by daybreak the next day, 24 hours later, we had an addition 6" of snow I had shoveled during the night.

So, there I was with a wonderful Impact test unit and I did all sorts of indoor evaluations to lean all that it had to offer feature-wise, and made some drives off to the east in Idaho, or stretched them off further to visit my Mom and do a little Coin Hunting far to the west around Portland Oregon. I knew the big 14X15 coil was going to satisfy me because it is close to the 13X15 DD I had for the Nokta FORS CoRe, so a nice coil option for large-target searches. The 'standard' 7X11 DD, very similar size and shape of what I had for the original Makro Racer's 7X11 DD, would be a good coil for open areas like a beach, middle of an old large grassy park, sports field or out working a plowed field, pasture or rangeland.

Then there was the new-to-the-Nokta-line 4X7½ DD. That little elliptical coil worked quite well for me when Coin Hunting the various urban sites I could make it to, and searching for all the modern-size coins we have of various denominations, and scattered about in a typical mix of modern-day trash. You know, mainly clad Dimes, Pennies, Nickels and Quarters in picnic areas, parks, parking strips and the like were 'normal' trash is also encountered like pull-tabs, pry-tabs, foil, bottle caps, and such. That little 4X7½ DD worked well, and had a nice balance and feel, kind of like the small elliptical NEL Snake coil on other makes and models.

Back in March I thought I'd do a little testing of the detectors and coils I had and invited Oregon Gregg over with his detectors and after-market search coils because I made a test scenario I use into a very tough challenge simply by changing the sample coin. I have been using my Nail Board Performance Test since I encountered an Indian Head Penny laying in-sight on the ground and surrounded by 4 iron nails of different sizes and orientation. Sort of 'where-they-fell' type of condition in a very dense iron nail contaminated old ghost town on a hill where the school used to stand.

I used that Indian Head cent at first then started using any Indian Head or modern Zinc cent as they are the same size and have a similar conductivity. I also used those same 4 rusty iron nails and duplicated their position/orientation of the nails and penny to make my Nail Board Performance Test that I used the next few days in Prescott AX giving a college class on Recreational Metal Detecting. Since stumbling upon that 4-nail & coin test scenario on Memorial Day Weekend in late May or '94, the NBPT has been regularly used when I evaluate ANY metal detector or search coil, and many avid Relic Hunters have come to agree that it is very useful, functional test that mimics some of the challenges we have when trying to unmask a good target that is located amongst some offending iron.

Then came the really tough challenge that I welcomed Gregg over to try. With the NBPT there are 4 marked routes to sweep across the nails-coin-nails, and sweeping once from the left and once from the right makes it possible to get up to 8-out-of-8 hits on the NBPT. Also, there are two ways to compare a detector and coil which are:

1.. To just barely reject the iron nails. Just increase the Discrimination level to the point all four nails are just barely rejected.

2.. Set the Discriminate level to just barley accept all four iron nails.

Why the two methods? Because some detector circuitry designs provide very quick-response and fast-recovery of adjacent targets that are audibly detected (accepted), while some do not perform well when they are also dealing with a Discriminated (rejected and not heard) nearby trash target. This is especially noticeable when hunting in and amongst a lot of ferrous trash, most notably the common iron nail.

Using a US Zinc or Indian Head Penny, or even a modern clad or older silver Dime, which is slightly thinner and narrower, most smaller-size search coils can handle the four nearby nails easily and provide very decent audio 'hits' on the coin in the #1 centered position. Using an Indian Head cent the Makro Racer and Racer 2, using the 'OOR' DD and 5" DD, or the NEL Snake or round Point DD coils, and the Nokta FORS CoRe w/'OOR' DD, FORS Relic w/5" DD and Impact w/4X7½ DD, easily produced 7 or 8-out-of-8 hits. All splendid picks for Relic Hunting in dense iron debris.

There was an obvious difference with which search mode (program) was used, such as Di2 Vs Di3 where the Two-Tone audio provides the most alertable sound from the coin, better than the Three-Tone mode which still did well. Then came the real challenge of the day. Same location and conditions, same detectors and search coils, same NB in an unchanged position .... BUT ... I changed from the Penny and modern Dime we were using to a smaller, thinner, tougher-to-find coin. I used my 1836 Capped Bust Half-Dime which is half-of the weight of a silver dime, which means it in a very smaller diameter and a much-thinner thickness. Quite a challenge in the center of that #1 circle with the four nails surrounding it (and affixed to the NB so as to always have an identical position from test-to-test).

Two Makro Racer series models, the original and a '2', and a Nokta CoRe, Relic and Impact all with their different factory-produced smaller search coils, and what was the ONLY detector and coil to get 8-out-of-8 hits on the small Capped Bust Half-Dime? My FORS CoRe w/'OOR' DD coil.

What came in 2nd place in performance? My FORS Relic w/5" DD and the Racer 2 w/5" DD gave us about 7-out-of-8 hits, but one of those passes was borderline 'iffy.'

I figured the Racer or Racer 2 with the 'OOR' coil would have been at the top of the challenge like the FORS CoRe w/the same-size 'OOR' coil, but that wasn't the case. Instead, the Racer 2 w/'OOR' came in next producing about 6-out-of-8 which is what I consider to be a just barely acceptable performance for Relic Hunting in dense ferrous debris.

My Impact w/4X7½ DD elliptical coil came in last of the detectors with a factory-produced smaller search coil, only hitting on 4 or 5-out-of-8 possible chances.

Now, here is where both Gregg & I were a little surprised because both of us figured the Racer 2 w/'OOR' would have been at the top-end of the performance in this tough challenge. And I am not a big fan of after-market accessory coils, but as Tom mentioned here, the NEL Snake coil is a very good consideration, at least on some detectors, because in that testing we did, the Racer 2 w/NEL Snake out-performed the Makro 'OOR' and round 5" DD coils, giving an 8-out-of-8 performance like I got with my FORS CoRe w/'OOR' coil.

It was intended to be more of a personal entertaining experience with Gregg so he'd better understand some site challenges we face looking for those tiny-sized coins and buttons, while both of us got to see how these coils and detectors performed. Then he posted the results on my AHRPS Forums and that got an immediate response via e-mail to me from Dilek. A wonderful sign of how a top-notch detector manufacturer will monitor several Forums to keep abreast of how their product is doing and be alert of any questionable issues. She called and we had a discussion about the Impact and the 4X7½ DD coil, and I added my comments and emphasis, based upon experiences for several decades now, of how there can be differences between detector circuitry performance and search coils size and type, such as the 14 kHz Makro racer and racer 2 and the 15 kHz Nokta FORS CoRe using the exact same size, shape and type of coil.

I pointed out how, for whatever reason, the NEL Snake coil worked well but a similar elliptical DD of close to the same size on the Impact didn't fare well. The coil worked fine for 'average' conditions on 'typical' coins we usually encounter in 'common' day-to-day Coin Hunting applications, but this was a very challenging test that was made much more difficult by using the smaller, thinner Half-Dime. Nokta Detectors has had a NBPT since I sent them one back in 2015 so they can compare targets, but as Dilek told me, they didn't have a tiny Half-Dime. Anyway, I had a good discussion with Dilek. I encouraged them to consider making a small 'OOR' or 5" DD coil for the Impact as I felt it would work better on such a tough test, and I also stressed, once again and as often as I could, that I wished there was a smaller-size round Concentric coil for their Nokta and Makro detectors, too.

A tip-of-the-hat went to Nokta as they didn't waste any time working on a new smaller coil for the Impact. There was a Forum Post on April 5th that read:

Nokta and Makro

Hello Monte!! Regarding this subject - A small round coil for the Impact has been developed for your nailboard testing and it will be on its way to you soon.

I got an e-mail and a call for a heads-up that they made two 5" DD coils, one for me to evaluate and one to have in-house with the engineers, and to give it the same comparison test. It soon arrived and I tested it then called Oregon Gregg to come on over to witness the performance, and again we duplicated our efforts. The round 5" DD on the Impact worked great on the NBPT with the 1836 Capped Bust Half-Dime, and basically matched the performance of the Relic and Racer 2 with their 5" DD coils. I let Dilek know and soon the 5" DD was in production and announced for the Impact.

Is the small elliptical DD coil a good coil? Yes, it is, and I have one in my arsenal that I use during winter months for Coin Hunting as a complement to my trusty 7" concentric coil that gets used the most of all the coils. During the 8 or 9 months when I spend most of my time Relic Hunting older, ferrous littered sites, I use the 7" Concentric and 5" DD coils the most, to be sure.

Coil choice depends a lot of how often we get out hunting and the density of trash we are dealing with, not to mention iron-based debris combined with higher-conductive modern junk. With the Impact's versatility, it is the ONLY detector model in my personal arsenal that I own every search coil for that Nokta makes for it. Each coil has it's strengths and weaknesses so pick the one you feel will serve your needs the best.

Monte

I know I'm a little late, but I wanted to add in that after waiting 5 months for the FGP 5.5x10 concentric to be in stock and being told they were in order. I ordered from a dealer in turkey...... 3 days later, it was here.
I'm all about ordering from our home dealers, but there's only so long I could wait.
Kellyco and I have gone around more than once.
I'm not here to bash them. I did get my relic quickly after preordering it, but they seem to lack a but in accessories or seemingly knowledge of their own stock.
I remember ordering lower rods for some accessory coils and then hardware and finding out they were still shipping the very first version of the fors core hardware that won't even fit in the modern ears of their nokta coils. This was 3 months after relic release.

Ahh. I've been wanting to vent that for quite some time.
Sorry if that sounded bad and I'm not one to whine or cry about things here, but seemed fitting for the thread.

Best bet would be to actually call and speak with someone there. May not get the answers you want, but you have a better chance.
