You can cover more area with an 11'' coil and it will detect deeper.

I can't speak for the 6" coil, but I agree with "au hunter". I started hunting my beaches with the 15" coil over the 11" and I do feel I get a little more depth, and better coverage.

Try an area that might have fair amount of targets both good and bad. go over with 11" coil then do the same after with 6" coil. many times you will pick up targets in between the junk with 6" coil

I wouldnt even take the 6" in the car unless I thought the beach was going to be extremely trashy, or lots of big rocks that would let an 11" coil between. Its hard enough to cover ground with an 11", that 6" will feel like trying to paint a barn with a tooth-brush.

If you detect in the water the larger coil will cause you to have to work harder but on the wet and dry sand the larger coil will allow you to cover a lot more territory.

I'm pretty much with the rest of these guys...go with the larger coil.
I'd personally use the largest coil trash will allow.

Hunting the expanse of a beach is a coverage game.
If you don't get your coil over 'it', you don't find 'it'.

Like Jason says...otherwise it's "like painting a barn with a toothbrush."

Different points of view as you can see. Im a standard coil kind of guy just because those are the most consistent for small and large targets. I know a guy who hunts with the 6'...... but yes there are trade off.... and always a time smaller coil might have been a better choice...... especially with this coils since ML seems to have squeezed out every inch on it. I dont like a huge coil...... weight, sensitivity, PPing ect...... and i prefer to work a beach rather than stroll and see just how much i can cover.

In your opinion does the 6 Inch offer less chatter in the salt water thereby enabling a higher sensitivity / more depth setting to be used?

Without a doubt........ and of course it moves EASY in the water. Not my cup of tea thou...... that baby is tiny lol. Hey...... but hes always got a gold ring when the beach is giving. Chains..... rings, he seems to end up with more than me at the end of the day. Hes starting to make me a hater lol.

I have all three coils and hunt the beach multiple times every week. The 11 is best as a compromise- shock! The 15 is a bit more heavy & nose heavy and harder to pinpoint- shock... The 6 is a dream weight wise, but as was stated it needed for picking goods out of loads of targets. It also seemed to me oddly a bit harder to keep proper coil control (may be just me) but it had a tendency to roll partly because it was so light and, I think the limited surface area on the bottom of the coil in the sand and water. It is a super small coil and the 15 is a super large coil IMHO! Two more cents (pre-1982 I hope).

Go w the 11" coil. Although I don't have a NOX, I hunt w the CTX 3030 and have used the 11" and 17" coils in water and dry sand. Without doubt, on average Florida beach anyways, you'd want the 11" coil. Although there are some beaches where a 6" would come in handy. On dry sand bigger is better simply for coverage. I'm probably the only one on Earth who uses a 17" coil in the water for up to 5 hrs - talk about a great work-out! Again, it is about the coverage.

That 6” looks really cute. I watched a video of a guy doing really well with it. He got more rings than all his friends combined. But, it looked like a small condensed area with targets everywhere. Last full moon I found gold five days in a row totaling one ounce! My best run ever. That was all with the stock 11”. I figured I’d do even better with the 15”. So I got it. I haven’t found anything good with it yet. My complaints are the same; the weight, the balance, the extra noise, and the lack of pin pointing ability. I’m going wet sand beach hunting tomorrow and I’m think about switching back to the 11”. Here’s a link to me finding one of the gold rings;
