Several years ago I was detecting by an old rock bridge that crossed a creek. Its a beautiful stone arch bridge made in the mid 1800s. I got a signal with my Eagle II and dug up what I thought was some kind of broach. It was shaped like a bugle. When I got home I placed it in my junk treasure box. Fast forward a few years and Im watching a John Wayne movie and he has that same bugle on his union hat. I retrieved it from my junk looked it up on the internet and sure enough a beautiful hat pin, fully intact. I sold it a year ago. I only have this one photo. I scanned it with some ww II era buttons Ive found. Its funny , I had this treasure and didnt even know it.

Very nice Hat pin... we never get anything loke that up our wayN/T

I hunt the old brook crossings up this way also. Amazing what is still there in the brooks. That one you have, fact all of those are in nice condition. Always wish on finds like that that one could jump back there for a few minutes to get the visual of how or why the piece ended up there. Especially on old sleigh bells.
