Which rechargeable 9V batter works best in Tesoros?

I've got a new vaquero on the way and should be here tomorrow. That makes 4 tesoros (Vaq, mojave, 2 compadres) that I have and all use 9V batteries. Been thinking about getting a set of rechargeables, but wanted to check here to see if one brand works or fits better than another brand. Thanks for any info!

I'd look on the web at a place like amazon and see what the better consumer rated chargers are. Get a decent charger and you be much better of in the long run. As far as batteries, I've used some import cheapies off of ebay and amazon and had mixed results. Some good, some terrible (even from the same pack.). I've always done great with eneloops without issues. They seem to be among the best in my opinion. Of course most name brands should work well. Good luck.

For the life of me I can't remember who, from Tesoro, posted here before he left Tesoro. I DO remember him saying the only thing he wouldn't do was use the 12.6 v rechargeable in a COMPADRE. I believe he said there was no voltage regulator to guard against the high initial spikes of this one Tesoro. Other Tesoros were fine. My rechargeable lasted about 10 hrs.

I would like to find a battery a little bit smaller . They didnt make the compartment big enough on the Vaquero . Its tight fit .

The standard Vaquero here in the UK comes with the single 9v which does work well and gives a reasonable amount of detecting time,i have a UK version which was upgraded by the official UK repair agent from new upto 18.5khz and many other desirable tweaks as well, but they also added the Tejon battery box behind the armcup as they felt that the single 9v volt battery was not enough.Although its only a small thing but it does balance the detector slighly better,of course the downside is that it requires 8x1.5v batteries rather than just the one battery..........one good advantage by having the Tejon battery box is that then leaves the 9v battery compartment under the control box to store my spare Garrett pinpointer battery just incase the one in the pointer runs flat and usually does when you are some distance from the 4x4.

Rechargeable batteries dont as a general rule last as long as normal alkaline batteries so although you can recharge them is it false economy when you can by decent branded from a large store at cheap prices these days or even cheaper online ??

Regular batteries are cheap enough and do last longer. For the few dollars you may save on rechargeable's, I've found they are not really worth the fuss. I spend less on batteries a year than I do a fishing license. I only detect 5 1/2 - 6 months a year though, Apr - Oct.

I've had good luck with Tenergy and Powerex 9v batteries. Both last all day hunting
Make sure you get a quality charger for the batteries. the Powerex batteries are 9.6v
and require a special charger for the higher voltage. Hope this helps.

I bought EBL lithium ion rechargeables to try, but they are a bit too tall. No bigger than some regular primary 9v batteries.
I've found that the Panasonic that come with the new units and Duracell (and procells) and rayovac pro are the only ones that fit well.
Other ones permanently bent flat the terminals on my compadre and need to use a folded piece of paper wedged in to have the above named "properly sized" cells work.

It's odd to me how much variation there is in the market even between different Company's 9v cells.

I've settled on Duracell and procells ordered in somewhat of bulk from battery warehouses and even Amazon. But be careful on Amazon. Really cheap copper top ones have been reviewed as fake.
But the 12 packs of the Duracell procells have worked well for me. When I last bought they were 12 for $16 or so.
There are also online battery warehouses that sell genuine Duracell's for cheap.

I stopped looking for rechargeables that will fit after what happened with my compadre and just go with Duracell because the matched the overall height as the original Panasonic cells that Tesoro sends with their new units.

Hope some of that helps.

present timer, and if I add another Tesoro or two, they will also be using 9-Volt batteries.

I never use rechargeable batteries for a few reasons. Cost, annoyance, down-time for charging, frequently they are off-sized in length and/or width to properly fit a Tesoro, and the main reason is that a decent quality alkaline battery lasts a long, long time. I use ONLY alkaline batteries.

I usually use Duracell, and if they are not available then it is Energizer, and I still keep an eye out for off-brands of alkaline batteries, and most often I can find them on a sale and they last just about as long as the Duracell brand 9-Volt does.

I use EBL nimh batteries which are cheap on Ebay and hold a charge fairly well. They fit tight in the Vaq and Compadre though so can't really recommend them.

I used to get the Eveready Gold 9 v alkalines from Dollar General. They actually hold their amps as long or longer than Duracells and Energizers according to a graph I saw. And they are really cheap. I do recommend those.

I have found Rayovac alkaline to last just as long for $1 cheaper!

Alkalines are 550 mah, my Energizer nimh rechargables are only 175 mah.
I think the biggest problem for me is to remember to open my battery compartment occasionally to take a look. Alkaline batteries last so long in my silver micro max.
