I Got Flour Gold Today By "UN-GROUND BALANCING" My AT MAX:smoke:

That's right! By un-groundbalancing the MAX. We ground balance our detectors to get them to run smooth and quiet. I set up the MAX to run very unstable........especially to iron. Usually my AT Pro balances in the 80-90 reading. To pick up the iron in the bedrock, I manually set the GB to 20. What a chatterbox...... unless I raised the coil above me, where it ran quiet.

You see, gold is one of the heaviest elements in rivers & creeks, and always settles in crevices, where the water turbulence wont move it, unless it is spring runoff. Black sands both magnetic and non-magnetic also are heavy, and tend to accumulate in the same areas where gold hides. So........find the concentration of iron in the bedrock, and you should be able to find the gold. I did today. :)

Great job on getting that "flour" gold. First time I heard the term. You earned it, that's for sure, looks like hard work but a nice pay off.

Interesting how you unground balance to find gold where the heavy black sand deposits are. Your video was fascinating! Good luck on all your future prospecting!

Greetings and good luck from West Virginia

From the thread title, one could get the impression that your machine detected flour gold.

Just to clarify for any would be prospectors, NO current VLF detector, even the higher frequency dedicated gold machines, or PI machines, can detect flour gold in the concentrations normally occurring in it's natural environment. Far to fine/small.

The technique you mention, of running a slightly positive ground balance, has been employed by experienced "nugget shooters" for quite some time. It can aid in discerning faint or deep signals, both ferrous (including magnetite) and non-ferrous, as most nugget hunting is done in all-metal mode.

Many current brands/models of detectors, both dedicated gold machines, and general use machines have a continuous FE3O4 graph or readout of magnetic mineralization within the soil matrix (including magnetite), which can be as said, a POSSIBLE indicater that gold MAY be present in gold bearing locations. How many beach hunters have encountered "black sand" (magnetite) deposits? In that domain it's not a welcome factor. The detectors with the FE3O4 readout can be tipped off to it's presence quickly. My Whites GMT (dedicated gold machine, operating at a high 48Khz) has a feature called "Follow Black Sand" which gives a % probability of iron including magnetite within the soil matrix.

Flour gold usually requires LOTS of labor, and panning large amounts of material for any worthwhile amounts to be recovered. Put plainly IT AIN'T EASY!

Nice colors in the pan John!

I was ready to sell my metal detectors and buy an AT Max, then I watched your video. You machine was sounding off in several area (that you did not dig). You simply found your favorite spot and started digging.
My noka fors for gold cannot deal with the Arizona mineralized soil, it sounds like the settings you had in un-ground balanced mode x10. My whites GMT handles the soil better than the Noka, my ATX even has problems ,but can find more than the other 2 detectors but it is a bear to swing for more than an hour.
Bottom line, your title is miss leading.

He explains it very well. IF some one runs off and buy's an AT MAX just from reading the title god help him.
