While detecting today on the farm I picked up 6 marbles. One was split exactly in half. Sorry, no pictures. The sites go back to the late 1800's.

Cool... keep your eyes open for clay marbles too,they are usually orange or beige in color...

Booty, I've only found 2 over the years. Any idea how to date them? How were they made so round way back?

Nice going on your marble finds. Several years ago, I dug a cache of 158 vintage marbles and like you I was curious about identifying them. I believe that you will find this site to be very helpful in answering your marble questions:
