The Explorer SE and gold coins

For those of you that have found a gold coin with the Explorer, what did it sound like. The reason I ask is that I have secured permission to hunt an old home site that still has an old home built from limestone still standing. I was also told that across the road was a general store. I did find both places on my 1879 map. I heard from the landowner of the house that there is a lot of junk in the area. It is also over grown with weeds. Where the store was is a cornfield. Any tips fellas? Thanks!! Ted

Thats a good one Mike! I'm not worried about somebody else hunting it. The property owners live right next door. They don't like people on their land. Just wish the weather would change for the better!

I haven’t found a gold coin yet but I would believe they sound very smooth.
Good luck,
Tony

I think a $5 gold will sound like a Indian head cent.

Ted,I believe the 5.00 half eagle is just slightly lower in conductivity than an Indian,BUT...ground conditions, soil, etc could make it closer than it normally is. Personally(and this is me) I’d run in Ferrous sounds,no disc and dig everything that doesn’t have the iron “bump bump”. It’ll be some work depending on the amount of conductive trash there is but it’s the only sure fire way of not missing anything to the best of the Explorers ability. Good luck,it sounds like fun just to take a look!

Thanks! I wish the weather would break. We are supposed to get another 4-6 inches of snow today. I want to get out and start hunting but it has been a nasty cold spring. It should be in the 50s but tomorrows high is going to be 28*. At least the snakes won't be out!

Imagine it would be a solid smooth hit with no fluctuation due to its makeup...read somewhere where a fella shows the exact position of various denominations..will let you know if I find the article....

OK here is my question for everyone. SNAKES and how to handle them? Once when I started in this hobby I was almost bitten by a snake. I HATE SNAKES. I have taken my pistol with me a few times when detecting. However I would advise anyone to make sure you have the land owners permission to do that first.

The only problem I had with a snake was the time one fell out of a tree it hit my hat and bounced to the ground. The dang thing was as frightened as I was and slithered away.

I am on the east coast and don’t see many to stay protected.
